I recently got an empty terastation on adverts and I have
been having problems getting it running.

I am aware that there needs to be some sort of kernel on
the drives before it will work correctly but I have spent
ages trying to get this thing working. Things attempted:

    Force Firmware
    Update Firmware
Manually Add Firmware and Partitions in Ubuntu

This is as far as i can get:
    terastation.png
I currently have a 400gig Sata drive which I am trying to
get working before adding additional drives.

I remember about 20 of these being sold on adverts and no one else
had any issues...Is there something obvious I am missing???:(

All four drives have to be in it for a firmware update and format to work.

I got a similar message with all four drives in and had to replace one of the cables because the sata component of it was broken.

Do all 4 drives have to be the same Make/Model ?

    ie
I have a Hitachi, Western Digital and I'm planning to buy
two more drives (Probably Samsung) for the thing.

It is advisable to have all four drives the same type yes.
