ACA courses in Limerick

    Hi guys,

I'm graduating this year (fingers crossed!) and I'm looking at my options for professional accountancy/tax qualifications. Is it the position for ACA at the moment that CAP 2 and FAE are taught between Limerick and Waterford? Is there any way of doing it purely in Limerick?

Or, worst case scenario, how important is it to attend the lectures? Even thinking about travelling to Waterford on a Friday evening or early Saturday and having to travel back on a Sunday evening and then make it to work on Monday morning makes me feel sick! How do people do it??

    Thanks!

    Hi OP,

The Waterford/Limerick course is not run directly by the ICAI. It is subcontracted out to Griffith College.
I'm currently doing my FAE's and from Waterford and working at home aswell but I am doing the Distance course in Dublin which the Institute do themselves. I've been doing it for 3 years now Prof 2 & 3 in Carlow and the simple answer to your question is it is tough but you have to do it. It's hard getting up early on Saturdays & Sundays to go to lectures but I'd recommend not to miss many as it is not like college where you lose an hour, you lose an intense day where maybe 2 or 3 topics will be covered in a day. I think I only missed one lecture in 3 years.

    Thanks Odats,

I was afraid someone would say that! I even hated missing college lectures!

Hi, I'm currrently doing the CAP2 with griffith college in Waterford/Limerick. Yeah its tough but most firms give their students travel allowances when doing the course for one of the weekends be it Waterford or Limerick, therfore most people stay overnight in a hotel or something. Also if its any help the courses don't start til 10 and finish bout 4 most evenings.
As for missing them wouldn't really recommend it as a lot can be covered in a day. Hope this helps

    that's all very helpful, thanks!

Do any employers give you a half day on Monday to let you recover?? How many weekends roughly would I actually have to spend in Waterford?

Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and prepare for a tough agenda while I train:(
