My new runners and my groin?

    Hi,
Before the mods come charging in please note i realise there is no mediacl advise allowed on here.

However, i have just gone and bought a pair of saucony triumph 6. I must say i really like them, very comfortable etc.

But, I have just began running and after a small distance i start to notice that i get a pain in both my groin areas. I have no idea what this is...

    My theory is...
That i have bought runners without getting a gait test done. If im overpronating could this be sending shocks up the inside of my legs that are culminating in my groins leading to the pain.

This may be a wild theory but does it sound legitimate?

    Thanks

Yeah, mods eh :) Do we understand that you're a new runner nellocon? If that is the case then you'll probably find that you are - or will get, all sorts of aches and pains in unusual places. Though I have to say that groin pain doesn't often come up.

My personal view is that there is generally too much analysis of gait and types of running shoes. The shoe industry loves it. However, if this issue persists, it may be worth your while being assessed by a competent person.

In the short term though I'd say see how it goes with your running. If you are in pain rather than discomfort (discomfort being something that we all experience) then consult an expert. But you will probably find that your groins will gradually become accustomed to the new activity.

Thanks Roy, thats alot of help.
Your right i am very new to running but have always played sports, and i have never felt this problem before. I actually believe the whole gait thing is, well a bit over estimated. I mean how many years has it really been around people have been running marathons since forever.
Anyhow, from my research into common running injuries it seems a groin one is pretty rear alright. My initial thoughts were as you say, that its just my body dusting out the cob webs. Im going to keep on going for a few days and see how i get on.
And no the pain is not really a showstopper, its more of a discomfort, however it seems to build with mileage i think. Seeing as my mileage hasn't been over 7 yet, it has not become seriously sore.

    I'll keep ye posted.

    Thanks.

Just a further thought. You might try a few specific stretches AFTER running e.g. hurdle stretches, hamstring stretches. And maybe a few minutes of lunges prior to setting off, get the muscles loosened up a little.

    Well...
I woke up this morning and felt a slight pain in my arch. Unknown to me, i though nothing of it.
So i went out for a run today, got about 3 miles from my car when the pain in my arch started to get intense.
I stopped immediately and started walking back. After a while i literally had to limp back to the car.
After a bit of research it seems i have planter fashiitis. After only my first run of a couple of miles.

I can't believe all this. Was really looking forward to going running but it just seems like im destined to be injured if i keep going.

On another note the groin felt fine today, so thats a bonus.

So what should i do? Maybe i did to much running on my first session.

Crikey nellocon, it's a good job you're not a horse or they'd shoot you :)

I hope others might advise on this (non-medically) but don't give up hope. You must have run many a mile doing your other sports so I can't imagine there's a problem that can't easily be solved.

    Best of luck.

Cheers mate, i can't really get my head around it. I'm always playing soccer and what not. Then i go out for a run of a couple of miles for well less than an hour and im in agony with my foot arch.

My only conclusion is that it must these saucony runners. I mean im well able to run up a bit of mileage normally.

Is this only since your new runners? Do you have an old broken in pair you can use?
Try stretching out your foot arch too, holding back your foot from the ball of your toes.
I was getting sore in my groin too, I think it's the hip flexor, but that was mainly from not stretching out properly before my run that lasted about a week, my poor body didn't know what I was doing to it with all this running!

    Hey moondancer,
Yeah this only happened since i got the new runners. My arch is now even sore to walk around on. These are my first runners so i havent got another pair.

Even though the runners feel comfortable and all, it must be them that caused this to my foot.
My friend keeps recommending to get nike vomeros, he thinks their the best around.

You get all sorts of aches & pains in places you never thought when you start running or something else. Try an insole with arch support & see if that helps a bit.

I have plantar fascitis, always flares up when I'm breaking new runners in then it goes away again.

    Hi,
Sorry to bring this up again, Im pretty sure its plantar fasciitis i have in my left foot. The pain really only comes when i start walking around on it, but does anyone here know how long it may take for the pain to go away fully.

Its not a bad pain, i mean it doesn't hurt at all until i start walking around and even when i do i try to walk just on my toes to stop any pain.

I'm starting to wonder when it will go away completely since it started last friday..?

    Thanks
