Metal Slug on Wii

Have decided to fill the Metal Slug shaped hole in my life by picking it up n wii.

Does anyone have any opinions on the best version? I'd prefer to get it on VC but the anthology is about for as little as 20blips. Has anyone heard if Metal Slug X might be making it to VC? Are the control issues on Anthology as bad as some make out?

Had it for the Wii (way back when..)

Didn't really like it at all. You had a few different control options, and none were perfect. I found it very frustrating.

Cheers for that, many people say the anthology seemed to miss the mark in a number of ways so may go with the VC version.

If you have a gamecube controller it's quite playable, otherwise, trying to use the wiimote and numchuck is terrible.

The Anthology is much better value and you have more options. You can get all six Metal Slug games for the price of 2 VC ones.

I'm a bit confused by the people complaining about the nunchuk with the Anthology version. You don't need to use the Nunchuk, you can just use the Wiimote or the classic controller. The controls are pretty much identical between the two versions anyway, the grenades being the only difference. The VC version uses a button, you shake the controller for the anthology.

For a game that requires good reflexes and concentration, shaking the bleedin' wiimote in the middle of a game is ridiculous. That is one of the failings of wii developers in general - shoehorning the wiimote functionality into situations that are not appropriate.

mobius42, you can't use the classic controller with Metal Slug Anthology. You have to choose between imprecise movement with the Gamecube pad or imprecise grenades with the remote, and neither are ideal for Metal Slug. You can use the classic controller with the VC version, and have everything on its excellent d-pad and buttons, which is ideal. And Anthology isn't really better value, given the only two decent Slugs are the first two. ;)

have decide to go for the VC version when I get some points next week, want to have it there in the channel menu as much as anything else, will let you know what I reckon.

The control options on the Anthology were a real joy killer.
So I bought a SuperGun, a NeoGeo MVS motherboard and a copy of Metal Slug X, and now my days are filled with happiness, and HEAVY MACHINE GUNS

Got this on the VC and have put a couple of great hours into it.

Such fun, awesome sprite art, pretty tight controls and non stop crazy crazy action.

Might consider picking up the anthology if I find it somewhere, really cheap, just to play through some of the other games (although I'm still getting Pwnd on Mission 4 on the first one) Otherwise I'll get Metal Slug X if it ever becomes available on VC.
