Sports Nutrition Books

I am looking to buy a sports nutrition book that includes both specific training and recovery nutrition but also lifestyle nutrition. There is a rake of them on amazon but i'd prefer not to waste my money on a bad guess. Does anyone have recommendations or good, bad or indifferent reviews of the more popular ones.

In terms of complexity, i am looking for the sports nutrition equivelant of the "lore of running" ie one that will bridge the gap between explaining the science and the practicals of what to do on a daily basis.

    thanks

I was actually just looking at books the other night on amazong as well. So happy you started this thread. These are two I was looking at if anyone knows anything about them?

    Eating for Endurance

    Sports Nutrition

I have eating for endurance. It's good although it has a bit on myth busting for fat americans. You can leave that out and it is a good book - all simple stuff like grams of carb/protein/fat per kg of body weight for exercise, day to day existance and carb loading. Not the same size as the lore of running so it will fit in your pocket.

I developed a simple nutrition table from it.

Sports Nutrition by Anita Bean is a good one, I found it helpful and easy to read and follow.

asimonov, the books mentioned are the standard entry level guides. From talking to you in the past, I think you already know this content. I would be more inclined to send you to the original literature (pubmed and sciencedirect are good starting points).

Thanks HM, i'll have a look there first and see how i get on with the science.

RQ, If i find anything i think might be of use to you ie "the 100 mile nutritional plan" - i'll post some links back up here.

Yea, for some reason I bought two copies. It is a very good book on the basics (as is the whole series, I have the stretching one too). Anyhow, if anyone wants it PM me and I can post it or you can collect if from Dublin 14.
