Hello,I really need advise for my best friend,he has been through a lot of disappointments lately .Here is a summary :-

He got an offer from TCD for a masters programme. He unfortunately has been unemployed for about 12 months now ,he intends to apply for the Mature grants which if he successfully gets would mean he would get €6000 for the fees, but the course fees are about €13,000.I would really appreciate any advise about how he can get a Loan to fund his studies and accommodation.

He have very little knowledge on how Student loans work and I dont either, basically he would like to borrow about €6000 but would like to get advise on

    -The best bank to approach
-Considering that he has been unemployed for about 12 months,is this a realistic endeavour.
-If this is not feasible ,are there any other routes to rasing funds for postgraduate studies.

All responces(especially postive onesbiggrin.gif)would be highly appreciated.

I won't be of much help but I really hope your friend gets something sorted, there's plenty of people on here who are usually very good with advice for this sort of thing.

Has he properly checked out his grant eligibility yet? If you get a grant for a masters course you can get your course fees paid for you. Plus since he has been unemployed (and I assume claiming benefits) he may be eligible for the Back to Education Allowance.

I got a loan from my local AIB branch. Just went in and told them I needed a student loan and they handed over the cash after I got a co-signor. I didn't have to make any repayments for 12 months, and they were very understanding about how much I could pay back a week. The only killer is that I had to pay nearly 10% interest.

here is the info on the back to education allowance. your friend needs to be over 24 and has to have been receiving benifit for over 12 months.
