DC5'S are 2litre. they are way nicer lookin and less common but generally i think dc2s are a small bit faster:o

Standard V Standard the Dc5 is faster, however the Dc2 has such a wealth of modifications out there that a nicely modded Dc2 will be faster than a similarly modded Dc5.

I drive both and went for the Dc2 because at the time the Dc5 was just too expensive but also the Dc2 is way more aggressive and way more fun to drive, its nosier, less comfortable and doesn't look as good but it is just a class car!

I agree. The DC5 may be quicker, but the DC2 will feel quicker. If I won the lotto, I'd buy a DC5, but if I had to save, I'd buy the DC2, Id have more pride in it! The DC2's where the best front wheel drive cars of their time (and still smoke most cars nowadays) and the engines bulletproof.

Whats the price difference between a nice DC2 and a standard DC5 anyway?

the vtec changeover is more agressive in the dc2 than the dc5.
dc5 would be faster standard but is more expensive.

Personally I would go for a dc5 as they are rare enough compared to dc2's which are really common these days and all look the same

As long as you don't buy a white dc2 they aren't common ;)

Is the JDM dc2 quicker than the UKDM dc2?
Personally I'd rather the looks of the JDM but believe its near impossible to insure if your under 25!

There is meant to be a 15 - 20 bhp difference between the JDM and UKDM models in favour of the JDM version.
But that is when the JDM version is ran on jap fuel, not Irish fuel. And then it also depends on how the engine has been looked after.

Good lord man theres not that much difference in them!

The JDM is rated as 200 ps (197bhp) and the UKDM is rated 190 ps (187bhp) so theres 10 bhp in the difference and when the JDM is run on our 95 RON feul that extra 10bhp is lost so there practically identical

I bought the car new and was driving it for about 3 years ,

When it came to selling it , I couldn't part with it . The car was then put out of sight , until we came across it this year.

Its is running .It need two driveshafts (due to none use) and a few other items .

That's a big difference already. Try using a Magnier's claybar......it works wonders, going to take a lot of elbow grease to have the gleaming again!

What is the interior like after sitting up? It's not damp or anything is it?

Unfortunately it looks as if the two side need painted , before I start needing elbow grease .
The interior is perfect . The drivers seat is damage down on the r/h side bucket . Easy fix . Stereo has gone MIA .

I keep you updated as I try to get this Type R back on the road .

Do you know anyone in Ireland that has a Type R scraped ?

    Where are you based?

You should join www.itr-dc2.com It mostly full of English lads, but most of them will post parts that you buy of them. Very good resource for parts, info and discussion on dc2's :)

Just to give a quick post regarding the OP's question, in Jap Performance Mag, there is a chart in the middle with most Jap cars performance figures, 0-60 the DC2 is 6.7 seconds and the DC5 is 6.8 seconds, and I read before that when making the DC5, they sacrificed some of the DC2's handling for style. So I would't put my money on a DC5. Although in tthe real world, the DC2 is older and all but on paper they're faster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

The DC5 also had to pass stricter newer safety guidelines such as having a higher raised bonnet, raw speed was sacrificed for safety same as in the ep3

    If I won the lotto, I'd buy a DC5

Not true, you could pick up a bog standard 01 DC5 for €10k, or a modded one for a few grand more.. when you consider that some EK9 Type-R's are going for around €7k then thats a lot of power and style for not much cash..

If i could id have a stripped out DC2 for the track and a DC5 for cruising..
