    Hi,

My wee fiesta just failed on emissions and the mechanic says it needs a new cat.

    Here are the test results.

Low idle CO .012 vol% PASS
    HC 0 ppm PASS

    High Idle Lambda: 1009 PASS
CO 0.45% FAIL (has to be under 0.3%)
    HC 86 ppm PASS

Any idea if this is right? To me the numbers don't seem too excesive. i would have though a tune, and changing of the air and fuel filters would have been enough.

Was the car driven for a good drive before the test or is there any chance it was just a short drive to the NCT centre and the cat didn't get a chance to warm up properly??? It could be just that the cat hadn't warmed up enough or the cat could be gone or it could be another cause. CO fails at high idle can also be a sign of a small manifold vacuum leak...
