Student benefits while searching for summer work?

Ok I know that students are not entitled to claim job seekers benefit while attending college but I was speaking with somebody who works for the social welfare office and she said that I may be entitled to some benefit since I am searching for work during the summer. This person is a friend of the family and does not work for my local social welfare so she could not actually process my pps number on the system etc.
I have heard before that you cannot make any claims during the summer holidays while in college and I never thought to call in to my local office and even ask. Anyway she said that they may offer you some benefit as you are actively seeking work, and pending college results for next year. Does anybody know anything about this area, or should I just call in and enquire?
    Thanks.

i actually really want to know the answer to this aswell.Ive tried to find out and what ive been told is that you must be out of school/college at least 3 months before tryin to claim dole. With this rule in force,we would assume they do not allow students to have money during the summer.in fact it would seem that is one of the reasons why that rule is there.I may be wrong as i am,like you, only going by word of mouth from an experience friend. But if nobody here is able to help you,do post back here with anything you find out. Perhaps even just ringing your local place to equire would be best, just to make sure you get the details accurate.
    Good luck!

The short answer is No you cannot claim unless you are finished education as the SWO ask for a letter from your college saying same.
    However, prove me wrong!

No harm enquiring but if I was your shoes this summer I would seriously consider doing the groundwork for some sort of business of a self employed nature. I take your young and have boundless energy? Either that enjoy yourself and head abroad for the summer.
