I know there are a lot of complaints about government bodies and contractors but i gotta give my compliments to SGS.

got my nct done in fonthill there bout 3 weeks ago and they were professional and quick. the car failed on a leak in the exhaust but i got re-test for the same week and it passed. all in all i must have spent the grand total of an hour in the centre.

(anyways on a side note think ****e of sticking a €50 in the visor to pass the NCT is symptomatic of what is wrong with this country. nct disc or not you'll stil be driving a dodgy motor!)

anyways thought some positive feedback might be in order and hopefully these guys might get a bit more work instead of the RSA.

+1 Just back from Fonthill myself they are very efficient, professional outfit, who, by the looks of all the cars there are single handedly trying to raise enough revenue to get the country out of the mess it's in.

I've always found them good in Deansgrange too, TBH.

Its a pity the driving test centres closed down, they should have just shut all the public service centres instead.

Naas is my local, never had any problems. Last time I was first in at 08.00, finished and on my way to work at 08.25.
At the end of the day they're only doing their jobs.

Some of my friends have had a few bad experiences, but with any orginisation the size of NCT your always going to have dissatisfied customers.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Have to agree, the NCT has been the most well run and efficient thing to emerge from the Dept. of Transport.

Purely because its a private company doing it on tender to them and not one single civil servant involved at any stage from booking to the test.

Couldn't agree more. I've put hundreds of cars through the NCT and have found them very professional and helpful.

That's where I go too, and it's always been a painless and efficient service.

Apart from when they shake the car around on the ramp as I stare through the window like a dad in the maternity ward. I hate watching that part.

I was surprised to hear SGS were losing the contract when it was announced. I have taken a good few cars through the Little Island branch & they have always been professional & timely.

The recent delays & website crash only happened in reaction to media scare mongering along with a general carelessness of folk who thought the NCT wasn't for them.

While I don't think that the NCT is the be-all & end-all method of rating a car's condition it is miles better than having no test at all.

I still think its a very flawed system for evaluating the cars road worthiness. They can be quite fussy and fail a car over ridiculous things at times.

They enforce a basic standard, that's all. A car can pass the NCT and still be unsafe, but anything that fails shouldn't be on the road.

Yeah but what they check and test is not down to them, that's set down in legislation. They only follow the script really.
