Using any FM transmitter is hardly a 'good' system. The very best you can get is FM radio quality sound. If you directly connect an iPod using a cable, you will get full CD quality sound.

If the head unit in the car has an AUX input or a facility for a CD changer, there is probably an adapter cable that will allow you to connect the iPod to it using a cable. These adapters tend to be expensive, for what they do.

If the car has a standard DIN style head unit, not an integrated one, then you can get an iPod friendly head unit for scarcely more than the cost of an adapter, that will give far greater control of the iPod such as being able access playlists and display the iPod data on the headunits display.
