Hi, I am not looking for anything fancy here, I admit I know very little about bikes, I just want a mountain bike to get me from A to B, no frills.

Can anyone recommed somewhere in Dublin where I could get a mountain bike new or 2nd hand for around €150??

I am lucky there are no hill in Dublin :)

If you have no idea what you want, I recommend to go to your local bike shop and browse around the advert.ie website.

Id save up anothr 150 and get somthing that wont break in 2 minutes.

Anything under 150 is going to be ****e, pretty much anything under e300 is going to be **** too.

If you reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly want to get a cheap bike id say halfords is your bst bet, that or tesco.

Ok so €150 won't get me much by the sounds of it. what do you guys think of halfords? will the bike fall apart after a month?

i'd be willing to go €250 max

ANY bike at that price will fall apart, regardless of where you buy it, i reckon cheap bikes all come out of one factory in taiwan or somwhere.

go to e280 and you will get a carrera subway 1, great commuter bike by all accounts.

I would say at a minimum, get a Dawes 201. It's about the cheapest yoke that won't fall apart after a couple of weeks.

Cycleways, Joe Dalys and Cyclogical are among the Dawes dealers in Dublin, full list is here -go in, ask what they've got and follow their advice.

OP, try here, for your budget prob go second hand...

stay simple, no suspension, disk brakes or any crap that will fall off after you ride it a mile. Do a bit of research but tbh you get what you pay for, and for that money your looking at maybe not the most reailable bike ie ... http://www.ruralni.gov.uk/print/index/ruralni_news-current/ruralni_news-archive/ruralni_news-quarter4/ruralni_news-02-01-2007.htmsh1t [/URL]... shinola

Just a compact, or maybe a compact triple.

Best bike for A to B in a city for the average joe is a city bike or a hybrid. That the closest thing to normal bike. Thats what shops list them as. Your looking for thin tyres, big wheels and as light as you can afford. Because you spend a lot of money and still end up with small wheels, fat tyres and heavy tank. Mountain bikes, (MTB's) or Road bikes (Racers) are really aimed at other uses. Though you can obviously use them for A to B.

Cycling forums in general, are very dismissive about cheaper brands like Halfords Carrera 200~350. But I've seen decent reviews from people who eventually move to better bikes and get more serious about their cycling. Probably more important than the bike, is getting someone to set it up properly for you, and then maintain it for you if you run into problems. For that reason you're probably best reading a few forums then going to your local bike shop and have a chat with them.

For limited budged I'd look at the Giant CRS, Specialized Sirrus, Carerra Gryphon. All of which start about 350. I haven't seen many 2nd hand bikes much cheaper than this.
