The thing that puts me off the RX8 is this from HonestJohn.

"Car must NEVER be started then shut down without reaching full operating temperature or petrol washout will harm rotor seals. Car must not be used for short runs from cold."

    26mpg!! - thats V8 economy

But it doesn't take very long to get it up to operating temp so it is no bother really

True I am getting much the same mpg from my RX8 as I got from my 4L V8 Jag XK8 but in every other respect of owning and running it is cheaper

Plus they are so much fun to drive

I do like em as a car - very practical with 4 proper seats and a boot.
What are they like to Tax Recliner? Ok I take it.

I moved house recently and you would be amazed how much stuff you can fir in an RX-8 when you try, the boot is grand but the boot opening is a bit small so large bulky boxes that would actually fit in the boot can't actually get into it

Saying that I have had no real problems in that regard, I had an old MX-5 a few years ago so became good at boot logistics

They are taxed as a 1.8L engine so €550 annually I think

They are heavy on petrol as mentioned and you need to top up the oil every 1,000 miles or so but that aside I have no complaints

Have a read here http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/ now they will mainly be pro-RX-8 people but there is info there on common problems and general care and maintance needed which will give you an idea if you can live with the car or not

I felt that the interior was a bit dull and tacky and small.

After 2 years of ownership I rate the RX8 as follows:

    Reliability:
    Has never failed to start
    Engine has never flooded
The car has not missed a beat

    Fuel Consumption:
City driving gets me 20mpg (but any car rated at 230bhp will get similar)
Open road will get 25-27mpg (I've tested this on runs from Dublin to limerick).

    Handling:
    Fantastic in the dry
A bit twichy in the wet

    Day to Day:
    Great car to live with
Takes back seat passengers (Even of they are tall)
Boot space is good but the boot opening is restricted a little (could not get an old 17" CRT monitor in due to narrow opening

The only other gripe I have with the car is that the right hand drive version (which we use here) has the pedels off-set slightly to the right (this takes a bit of getting used to). This is due to the position of the CAT.

Have you tried different tyres to combat the wet weather twichyness?
