I've bored you enough

Was just talking to a nurse there, I'm in hospital at moment. It was just normal chitchat about a condition I have, not professional or anything she was just wondering how I was getting on blah blah blah. Then after sh was like "I'll leave you now I've bored you enough". And to myself I was like.. Wha? What does this actually mean? Is it an horrific insecurity that even when someone is talking to someone about THEIR life that they think they're boring them? Or what? Any ideas?

And btw, I didn't have a bored look on my face and I was engaged in the conversation. Maybe it was age difference? Shes about 50 and I'm 20. Maybe some older people think that nothing they say will interest someone of my age? Anyway whatever what do ye think?

It's one of those expressions that just aren't used to express what they literally mean. That's quite common...

Exactly. It's the same as when someone on the phone says to you "I'll let you go".

On the surface those words almost sound like they're doing you a favour, but in reality they really just letting you know that they want to stop talking to you.

Indeed. They're polite and socially acceptable ways to tell somebody to shut up.
