Horse chestnut gel for tired / aching legs

    Hi all,
The entry pack for the recent Nenagh triathlon contained a sample of horse chestnut gel (advertised on pack as for tired & aching limbs). I tried it on one leg after a heavy training session last week & was amazed at the difference the next morning. Of course it could merely have been mental but I've since bought a tube & am convinced that it really does work! I've no idea how but am wondering has anyone else ever used it & noticed any effect?

how much "rubbing" did you do, could it have been the massage as much as the product?

    (welcome to boards btw)

^ true, I remember my physio told me something similar for Difene gel, the actual active ingredient didn't do much work at all

I usually have a decent warm down & mini leg (self) massage after a session. Gone are the days of my 20s when I could survive without any warmup or warmdown! I do (think I) genuinely feel better after using the horse chestnut gel but don't know how it works so am somewhat sceptical. Having said that, whether it's me rubbing down the legs a bit more thoroughly, a placebo feel-good mental effect or there's some magic ingredient, I do feel more sprightly the morning after!
