Car accident advice?

Person with a car 7 years old was rear ended. Slight damage was done from what can be seen from the outside, but if you open the boot the dent is much bigger around the spare wheel. Panel beater quoted €1500. Car value (pre-crash) was €3000.
Besides the dents, the car is fully functional, doors and boot still open fine.
Is the crash victim entitled to just drive away with the car in it's current condition and keep the €1500 themself or does the insurance company give the money direct to the panel beater?

AFAIK, the ins co assessor does a deal with the repairer and pays them directly. Better ask the ins co to be sure, though.

last time this happened to someone i know, the other insurance assesor came out to view the damage and sent the cheque directly to the guy that got hit. so yeas he could keep the damaged car and the €1500 and put it towards a new car if he wishes.

    This is my experience.
What they do with the money has nothing to do with the person they claim off as the 'victim' had an asset worth €x and is entitled to recover the lost value.

In most cases they will settle directly with the person making the claim i.e not giving the money to the panel beater or person who is carrying out the work.
