I would imagine you should have told them what you were taking buddy.

    If he had said

    "are you taking drugs"

you have the defence of saying you thought he ment illegal substances.

    However he asked

"are you taking drugs for anything"

Which obviously means for health reasons or whatever.

I honestly dont know what will happen like will the medication show up in the results or will it only show up if they look for it directly.
I could be mistaken but I reckon drug tests are for illegal substances, however dont take my word for it.

Could your epilepsy be a factor in your job,ie is it something like driving a truck that if God forbid you had an attack that it could be potentially hazardous to yourself or others?

Just wait and see I suppose and if in future the same thing is asked, tell them from the off because technically you lied.

Do you mind me asking what drug it is (Phenytoin etc) and what was the exact process of your medical?

Bloods can be taken simply for cholesterol. They may not find the drug for epilepsy in your system unless they go specifically looking for it (would have to use different reagents on the blood sample etc.).

Generally urine tests tend to be carried out for drugs-and at that they use a dipstick system which will give +/- results for various drugs including opioids, canabinoids etc. However benzodiazepines can be used for Epilepsy and is also used as a drug of abuse so it really would be helpful to know what you are actually on. When I did my medical it was a dipstick and it gave a negative result for drugs there and then (I am not on any prescription medication or illicit drugs so didn't worry me).

All medicals are different and I guess all I can say is wait and see, if negative tell them you misunderstood the question and inform them about your epilepsy medication. You should have declared it in the first place anyway but things happen and you live and learn I guess.

It really could be worse, Epilepsy isn't a big deal anymore so declare it on your medical in future if you remember-and at least it's not any illegal stuff that you have in your system.

Best of luck with it I hope it all goes well and you get the job.

thanks segaboy, anyway the drug is tegretol carbamazepine so i dont know if that makes any difference, did not give a urine sample as i could not use it at the time, they took three samples of blood and the the rest of the medical was standard.

AFAIK they normally use urine for drugs, so the fact you gave no sample could save you.

I presume they can also use your blood samples for drug testing so all I'd say is hold tight and see how it goes. Just declare it in the future.

    Best of luck.
