I'm a full-time mature student so I'm often at home all day, during weeks of study periods or whatever. Live in a small town where I know no-one and at Christmas and Easter my husband usually goes home so can be at home most of holiday time too.

Boards and internet keep me going but it does get lonely not speaking to anyone all day. But one day wouldn't bother me. It's three or four in a row.

Then I head to local shop just to have some contact with someone... sad, but true. Finished college soon though and will probably miss my peaceful days to myself

I did it last week.

Wife and children went to her parents on Thursday. I went shopping afterwards and got enough food for three days. Didn't leave the house again until Saturday. No phone calls of any sort on Friday.

Yep, I had many, many days like that - but I usually loved them. I came out of the library after 11pm or midnight having locked myself away in the most isolated part of the library since 8.30 or 9am. It was the best buzz I've ever had, like I had just explored an entire part of myself that I had been unaware of. It was a very liberating experience. It's not natural but when you have to do something it opens up unexpected feelings and awarenesses of who you are that we very often forget about when surrounded by people.

Without getting too existentialist about it, it can be very spiritual to live in silence amid all the noise of engines, tv, radio and vehicles all around. The world was a lot, lot quieter a century ago. Breathing in the musty scent of manuscripts and old books made the experience for me so much more enjoyable and gave me a sense of affinity with the scholars who had dedicated their lives, largely in isolation, to writing and transcribing works throughout the centuries.

Anybody can do it once they have an aim, a time limit and a sense of purpose. Once you get into it you really learn a lot about yourself in the challenge.

Yes. Had a few of those when I was in college and was repeating an exam. Nobody else I knew was repeatin' so I had to go to the library and the reading room all on my own. This was in the days before mobile phones/internet so it wasn't a happy time

I absolutely love weekends where i dont have to see or talk to anyone. Nothin better than shuttin the door on a fri eve and resurfacing mon morning after an entire weekend of tv, lie ins, lazy walks, wine and vegging. Bliss! Any longer than that though and i start talkin to myself like a loon and need to see some friends

yes indeedy have had quite a few days like this and its not an altogeter bad thing. A couple of times i became so used to it after a few days (and liked it) when i someone started a conversation with me i started to get annoyed with them for disturbing me! Until I realised that it was fairly sad. Maybe OP you should try and occupy yourself eg read a book and you might feel better than if youre just moping around the place;)

Really? I just think its nice to be able to relax on your own and do your own thing (be it active or not) without having to worry about who you're seeing or not. I think its a good and actually healthy thing to be honest to be able to spend a few days on your own and recharge the aul batteries. Life is busy enough so to get a few days of just doing and saying what you want is pure heaven.

Im really social generally but i get burned out after weeks and weeks of mayhem so the odd weekend here and there of chillin is great...alot of them maybe not so much but thats a different kettle of cod!

I travel a bit for a few reasons and have spent days at a time between appointments/meetings in hotels, alone, so bloody depressing, espically when your phone is dead and your forgot your travel adapter.
