    I have a 1973 114 originally from N.Ireland which I may sell,I have seen a Ponton which I fancy so I will sell my 114 to fund.
My 114 needs body work sills on both side and the two front floors. It runs resonably well and has a new 123 electronic ignition and water pump.
Send me a pm and I will send photos.
    Jerry

Could you please post the photos here on the thread instead, Jerry? Also what is your asking price and have you any more details about the condition of the car, mileage, service history, etc. :)

Apologies in advance for what may seem like a personal attack but this is purely general.

What basis have you used for your valuation?

A car like that sounds to me that it's worth €500-1,000

Spend €3-4,000 on it and it will be worth the €3,000 that you're looking for.

Why do we Irish ( and I'm counting myself in on this too ) think that our cars are worth multiples of their actual value?

Jerry, a car like yours could be picked up in the UK on ebay or carandclassic for €1,000-2,000 including transport and VRT - it would probably have an MOT and therefore be in better nick.

    eg
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1975-MERCEDES-230-4-AUTO-BEIGE_W0QQitemZ180354215966QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item180354215966&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Maybe this recession will stop all of that.

To add insult to injury - Good luck with the sale!

Pardon my ignorance, buy should a W114 250 have double chrome bumpers on the front?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah some do. I think they were actually deleted later on.

I wonder what the bulkhead is like on it.
Even though its badged 250 had they the 2.8 single overhead cam engine on twin carburettors?

The 1969 250 that I had a few years ago had the 2.5 single cam/twin carb setup which was a pain to keep right. Yes the later facelifted cars had a 2.8 version of the same and of course you could also get the 280E Twin cam version.

My father had a prefacelift 72 280E automatic in 1983, VIE 650, pale blue, with white steering wheel and electric sunroof. It was a lovely old car that suffered being turned into a diesel after it was sold.

I think that only the pre-facelift coupes had the double front bumper from the factory.

The father's 280E saloon had double bumpers, I think they were deleted from the 73-on facelift

You're right Blue850, both coupes and saloons had the double bumper.
