Insurance Question

Hoping someone can help me with this...... Im buying a new car tomorrow and my existing comapny (Quinn Direct) wont insure me on that type of car. Another company will but i'd prefer not to change over now because im at 4 yrs and 11months of no claims and id have to revert back to 4 years if i changed companies. Would it be possible to temporarily insure the other car with someone else? Is there some other option? Or will i just have to wait five weeks until my 5 years are up?
    Thanks

You can either wait the five weeks or take the hit and go with the 4yr bonus price with the other company.

Is there a huge difference in the premiums?

There are no companies that offer temporary insurance in Ireland and for someone else to insure it they would have to be to owner of the vehicle and have a spare bonus knocking about.

Why dont you just go with the 4 yrs no claims, pay by the month, then when your other policy runs out, cancel the new one and start afresh with 5yrs no claims...

    Th doesn't make sense.

To get his 4 yr bonus for the new company he'll have to cancel his current policy.

Is there any way you place the new car as a temp sub, until the policy is up?

BTW what kind of a car is it? If Quinn are refusing to insure it, it could be quite hard to get insurance else where?

Start calling around to different company's and see what prices you are getting in.

I think by law they have to quote you regardless but they usually get out of covering people in your situation by offering a huge quote. So I would keep at quinn until they offer you a quote. It will be a big one but all you need to do then is pay the very expensive policy for one month and then cancel it and change companies. You will then have the full 5 years

Dont they have to send you out your certificate of NCB 4 weeks before your renewal so you can shop around?

I'd seriously like to know what the car is, quinn have never refused to quote me if I *ahem* "word it correctly".

What do you mean when you say "word it correctly"??

You either tell them the car you want to get insured or not?

Nope, with quinn I've found there's a big difference between telling them you want a quote and telling them it's on the tarmac outside the door and you *need* a quote.

Its an evo v. Just a thought.....would it be possible to put the car in someone elses name and then drive it under the open driving/drive other cars on my existing policy?

should work but the car will have to be registared to them and you will be only coverd third party

listen mate its not worth the hassle of going through all this extreme, heres what i would do and you would only have to wait a week or 2.

who are you buying the car from?
give them a nice deposit and ask them to hold it for 2 weeks as the insureance isint through yet.

in a week or so you will receive your 5 year NCB from quinn and then use that to go to the new company with a full NCB and get insured.

other than that you need to tell quinn that you have the car in your garden and they have to transfer the policy over to it. and then go with whoever you want next month.

I know someone that this happened to on an Evo 3 when he was 21, he told them he owned it and had to insure it and because he had a current the had to cover him (Its in the T&C's apparently) He had 5 months left on the policy and it was only something like 500 quid for the rest of the year...but when the renewal came through it was 5000!

What age are you? How much was the other quote and what insurance company?

Does anyone know if this is correct? Do QuinnDirect have to quote you?

Course they do once you have policy with them, and as said its actully in your name. (hense 18-19 people driving evos etc... paying threw the roof too! But normal T&C applies)

The premium will go up depending on the car (seem as theres a problem giving an estimate)

They will adjust your premium threw the roof.

They will not give you a quote on a car if its not in yours (its more a deterrent than anything. )

OP, you say you just ran up 11 months ? The cover is for a year, so wait the extra month and cancel the policy, your up to 5 Years NCB.

Or if its a case of 4 years 10 months, why not insure a banger of a car bring the premium down and again your at 5 years.

As for the open drive, is it not a car of the same cc or lower? Or is that just FC?

On the open drive, can it be a family members car?

Yeah, its not like a trsde policy, when I started my policy with em they told me I had it and I asked is there any restrictions, only one I can remember was no Commercials. Anything else is good to go. Including bigger engined cars.

But I'm only covered third party on the other car
