Need help at predicting my TriAthy time

    Hi All,

I'm doing my first Olympic Tri in Athy (TriAthy) in 2 and a half weeks. The only previous triathlon I did before was TriAthlone Sprint last year. I was wondering if theres anyone who has completed both these courses can help me come up with a rough expected time.

I did the Triathlone in the following times (ignoring Transitions)

    Swim 750m: 18:30
Bike 21.5k (I along with another guy measured it at 21.5k even though it was advertised at 20k) 58:16 so that would be less than 55 mins for 20k. I used a Hybrid bike and will be using the same bike again this year.
    Run 5k: 22:40

I expect to do the run in about 52 mins. But I'm finding it hard to come up with an expected time for the other 2 disciplines due to the fact that the Athy course is different to the Athlone course.

The swim in Athy is about 1100m downstream and then 400m upstream, while in Athlone for the sprint it was half upstream and half downstream.

The cycle in Athy is apparantly very flat. How does this compare to the bike course in Athlone?

I do all my swim training in the pool. Last year I did 750m in the pool in about 19:30 and ended up doing the open water swim one minute faster. This year I've done the 1500m in the pool in 42:30.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

Well I did the tri athy olympic last year as my 1st tri. I found that my race swim time was 5 mins faster than my record in the pool. This of coarse depends on current, but last year it was very calm.

The cycle coarse is quite flat.

I was 13mins slower on the run (1hr 02mins versus me doing a PB or 49mins). Very tired after long cycle. I did bonk tho!

    What does it matter?

Means nothing - the time you can do is the time that you do
