Training Course / Dole Entitlement - Please help

    I was made redundant in January, since when I have been on the dole, getting the €204 per week, without which I couldn't really survive to be honest.

    I am now looking to do a training course, with help from FAS. It is not a FAS run course - it's run by a private institution - but FAS are in principal willing to pay half of my fees (approx €1000)

    My question is as follows:
    As I am currently dependant on the dole, I am worried that I will no longer be eligible to sign on and receive my €204 per week if I do this short (6 week) course. I know I should probably be asking the people at FAS/welfare but to be honest I find them difficult to talk with as they seem to be extremely busy, and eager to get through people as quickly as possible - which is understandable.

    So will I lose my dole over this period, or do I become eligible for something else instead?

    I'm really worried about this, and I don't want to go running to my elderly parents looking for help. I really want to get this course done, but to be honest I won't be able to afford it without the welfare money. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? Thanks.

    Full time FAS courses pay a training allowance which is the exact same amout as dole. But if it's not an actual FAS course it could be different.
