TTs for a newbie

So in a couple of weeks my evenings and weekends free up and I fancy doing some time trials. These seem to offer much of the high quality suffering of road racing without the apparently obligatory crashing, getting lost and being dropped.

    Questions:

    1. I am a long, long way from fast (I only started in Sept, have been injured a lot, and don't have scottreynolds-like powers of self-improvement). Will I just get in the way?

    2. I assume joining a club would be sensible, but is it too late in the season for this? I read that some clubs close membership once the summer starts.

I'm in Clonsilla, so I guess that makes Lucan CC my nearest. Any others I should consider?

A lot of clubs do close membership until the autumn, but I got around that last year by explaining that I wasn't a total noob and was joining to race.

However, there aren't that many TTs to do. Our club league only has around four and two will be done come tomorrow night.

There's a few open TTs run during the year. I know the Wicklow tri club did a few last summer, so it's worth keeping an eye out.

If it were me, I'd contact your local club (probably Lucan in your case) and introduce yourself and see what the score is.

Well I don't know many TT's that are run within the staggs lucan league !

there is very little in the way of TT that are open to all, ie open race TT that are run at the weekend.

But the Dublin Wheelers have started their own TT league on a Thursday night starting tomorrow, it's open to DWCC members and Swords cc members at the moment. Swords have league too which also have some TT's too
so could could have two evenings in a row to ride ... so if you are only going to ride TT you wanna join a club which has the most available for it's members to ride ....
check out these pages for your options

    1. You won't be in the way !!! have a go !!!

They're in the same league as my club. Just checked the schedule there and it's two 10 milers, one 25 mile, one TTT and a hill climb.

yea man, I posted the link to your inter club league above,

it depends on Lumens location ( home /work ) as who he should join, there are far more TT to ride between DWCC's new TT league and the swords league.....

Look at joining a tri club :) They'll trach you to TT properly and most clubs hold regular TTs.

Good idea. Do I have to wear a mankini?

Try doing a few duathlons also, its really just a TT with a warm up before and warm down after ;)

I did the last on in the park series last year when I was dabbling in running. They are a friendly and welcoming bunch and no need for memberships or anything. A lot of people are unaffiliated. If you really were going to do this, a tri suit honestly is the most comfortable thing to do it in as running in cycling shorts is less than comfortable. As a cyclist you can also have the satisfaction of doing pretty well on the bike; I was overtaking constantly but was murdered on the run :)

Upper body muscle, like, for example someone that swims?

Was thinking more like someone who used to do weights for rugby training.

    (aka 'useless' muscle :) )
