i thought about it once so asked one of the lads that stopped me on the street..

seems like they have a handy number, they get minimum wage work 5-6 days a week and travel to different counties/cities/towns and have their accomodation paid for....

BUT, in this economic climate would you really want to be one of those annoying people on the street asking for money???

iv done repping before in spain and believe me ya have to be able to take abuse and ignore all the negative people... which imo there will be alot of untill this recessions over...

You'll need to be lacking in morals to be a chugger.

Why so? I'm not one, for the record, but I do contribute monthly to a charity that I probably wouldn't contribute to if it wasn't for a "chugger" stopping me on the street. Doesn't seem immoral to me.

I worked for Face2Face some years ago, and the abuse I got was unreal. I was stealing from the charity, and I was a nosey irritating ****er, and I was this and that. I lasted a bit over a month before I couldn't stand for 7 hours of abuse every day! Also, there were some creepy guys who'd turn up every day no matter where you were repping that day and ask you to dinner and drinks.

I can imagine the abuse alright, as i see their point about it being a charity and getting paid to do the work. the more i hear about them the less I want to do it. thanks for the help though guys

Sorry, maybe you were the one exception to the rule, but 99% of chuggers i've encountered are irritating at best, harrassing at worst. I've had some follow me down the street - even into a shop once. And why do you all stand in a line outside places like the Central Bank and the GPO, making it impossible to avoid you all?

I give money to charity collectors but never ever to a chugger and if they ever succeed in stopping me I tell them i'll never donate to the charity they're representing because they're using chuggers.

Let's face it, you're on a tenner an hour (last I heard), you're not doing it because you want to help those in need.

I always thought the Face2Face Fundraising deal was a scam because it seemed to easy a job and too good a wage until I walked through central bank one day with a mate only to have him haul me down the street away from the 'chuggers' as you call them. They tried to follow us. One day I was with my boyfriend and this really annoying girl kept asking him to donate.Hes usually very generous but he couldnt stand her.He told her to F off and later donated money to one of the (non offensive or annoying)money bottles in a shop.
I know the job sounds great but you really have to be able to take the abuse. Some of those people seem like robots. They have big plastic smiles stuck on their faces and they dont so much as flinch when you tell them to leave you alone. It freaks me out a little.I'd prefer to donate to a charity that wasnt so forward nor so judgemental. Some of the collectors have shouted abuse at people passing by for not donating. And thats not fair on them.

I just recently posted here about having an interview for them. As soon as the guy said I have to be fearless, confident and outgoing, I knew I was the wrong person for the job. But if you have those skills, then by all means go for it!
