Hey. My GF has a 04 VW Bora and the electric windows, Electric boot release and central locking/interior lights have stopped working. Checked all the fuses and replaced a few that looked suspect and the rest seem fine. Also checked the ones on the battery they seem fine. it dosent actually say on the fuse card which one controls all these as I take it they're on the same circuit. Checked online also and not seeing anything helpful. Any advice welcome thanks as no alarm tonight is worrying

It sounds like the Central Convenience Control Unit is faulty or offline. I'm not 100% sure if this unit is installed in a 2004 Bora but it is installed in a 2000 model. This unit is the central control for central locking, interior lights, electric window, etc. It could also be a connection/problem with the Gateway Databus but this is less likely. The only real course of action is to have the car hooked up to a diagnostic tool that can interrogate the fault memory and perform a Final Control Diagnosis.

I've tried to check on Vagcat to see if the control unit is fitted to a 2004 but the site is down. I'll check later and let you know.

EDIT: Vagcat back up. The convenience unit appears to be fitted (see illustration - item 6). I honestly can't remember it's fitting location but I do know that on a Passat of the same year it's fitted under the carpet in the passenger footwell. A common problem on Passats was water ingress in the area due to incorrectly fitted pollen filters - the water fried the control unit.

Many thanks for your quick reply crosstownk, much obliged. The ''alternator workshop'' warning flashed up on the dash for a few seconds a week or so ago and she rang dealer and they said not to worry if it happens again bring it over. It hasn’t but I suspect this is related now. So I reckon it is something that you suspect rather then simple fuse changes. The car is under warranty but it’s a pain in the ass to bring over as gf is working in Dublin and the car was bought in Donegal
would appreciate if you could check that for me thanks as I can confront the dealer with it.
    Thanks

It may or may not be related to the alternator warning indicator - hard to say.

But your best bet is to get it back to the dealer and leave it with them until the fault is rectified. If does transpire that the convenience unit is at fault then it will cost a few hundred euros to repair (nothing to you as the warranty will cover it).

Leave it with the dealer and hopefully he can supply a replacement car while your GFs is being repaired.

Is the dealer a main VW dealer?

Thanks again. I gave the dealers mobile a buzz there and he said it’s in the drivers door and would need to check it. Also that he'd need it back up as hes not really a VW dealer more Skoda & Mitsubishi. so no joy getting it done in Dublin. also he wouldn’t have a replacement car as the one there has no tax lol. Anyways im grateful I at least know where I stand with it so back It goes. Reading around the net now it seems to be a common problem. ill update the thread when its done and I know exact cause for anyone else who searches in future.
    cheers buddy
