Hey, is anyone going to hit NZ or some of the european glaciers this year?

Im thinking of getting away to Les Deux Alpes for a few weeks. does anyone know how much a half season pass is over there during the summer?

    cheers

I should hopefully be riding Tignes this summer. I dunno about deux alpes, but Tignes have stopped selling summer season passes to the public as they weren't all the popular.

Here's a link to their summer pricing http://www.2alpes.com/pages/en/151/ski-mtb-pass-rates.html

Doesn't mention any season pass rates, so maybe like Tignes, their season pass is not open to the public.

I'm hoping to do a week in Tignes or Les Deux Alpes, some sort of camp where they can teach me to be super fly... havent really looked into it yet though I just like the idea of it all

Hey ollie, when i got the 1/2 season pass in l2a, it was a closely guarded secret, it wasn't on any signs or anything. I'd say your best bet is to email the lift pass office, 2 alpes loisirs.

@paulharte, would you recommend l2A for a weeks holiday?

Did you do any camps or do you think they would be worthwhile?

Life's not fair Static, sorry. :D

Heading off the beginning of July and there seems to be plenty of snow falling there at the moment, although still looks like it needs a bit more for a good base yet:

Deux Alpes has, on average, a better summer park than Tignes these days, so I'd go there for a week. Tignes summer park has gone down in quality in the last five years, but it's still quite good.

    Yeh, I've heard that too.

The decision to go for a camp or not is pretty much down to your financial position.

My brother did Kommunity (mcnab camp) a few years back and said it was amazing. You definitely will come away with a few more tricks in the bag.

If you are going to l2a on your own it can be quite intimidating as the park is full of top level riders.

Overall I would reccomend a camp, if you have the cash, as they can be quite expensive.

Theres better craic in a camp too, as l2a can be very quiet in the summer unless you are part of a camp/have a big crew in tow

    Hope this helps!

Hey All was thinking of going to Tignes for a week around mid july. Anyone been & if so whats the skiing like? How many pistes are usually open, whats the snow like? Ive read that because its so hot the ski day starts early and finishes early, is this the norm?

    Any opinions welcome!

    cheers:)

Lifts open at 7:15, and close at 13:15 (all summer glaciers have the same times really). The snow quality gets very slushy towards midday so early morning riding is better. Very little is open, only the Grand Motte Glacier.

There is a summer snowpark, and (depending on snow conditions) about 3 runs. I love summer shred in Tignes. A replacement for winter riding? No, but great fun none the less...however mainly just for park riding.

Price-wise, a day pass is €32, a half day (which starts at 10:30) is €24 and a 6 day pass is about €154.

What are the accomadation costs like for a week visit to Les 2 alpes?
Thinking of a week in august myself, is the snow still alright mid to late august?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭granty1987

    shane

well when i went there the week before val thorens in jan i only paid 80euro, splitting an apartment with 2others, right beside the Jandri lift (which i sthe only one that brings you directly to the glacier) so just check out accomidation on the les deux alps website - google it and its the first hit

snow-wise, well when myself n paul were there in october it was fairly good. the pipe got slushy at the end of the day but it wasnt much of a problem. up by the park usually fairs better than the piste down to the bottom of the Tbars to the jandri..
when you thinking of going? if i can go ill be planning on july but dont know yet

    yo ollie,
Think im gonna aim for the 8th or 15th of august, either one week or 2 depending on funds!
Are there many snowsport heads going over do you know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭granty1987

hmmn that could work for me.. depending on whether or not i get this job in jersey. if i dont ill prob head over in july, bradders has a free place there that month
as far as i know kk is going.. maybe greener.. after that im just guessing!

you going to do a camp or anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 shanegiven

Yeah i was looking at some of the camps, think the rip curl one was the main one still running that late but once again will have to check my cash flow situation, would be pretty slick though!
im just waiting to find out if one of my mates can go then probably gonna book something.
When do you find out about your job? is that for highlife?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭granty1987

    Hey guys

Long time since Ive been on these forums... Im going to Les Deux Alpes for the full month of August. Heading over on the 28th with Ryanair. Managed to get return flights including board bag for 160euro total.

I get free accomm with my job but in general places are easy to come by in the summer. just make sure it is near the centre of town as you dont want to be walking far in the summer heat with loads of gear and stuff.

Ive been to both Tignes and L2A in the summer (although it was 7 years ago I was in Tignes) and Les Deux Alpes has a much better park in my opinion. Tignes has a few more slopes though. If you are thinking of going to a summer glacier dont expect it to be like winter at all, snow is slushy, heavy, wet and sticky but its great for riding park.

If anyone is heading over this summer gimme a shout as I will be there for August as I said!
