Crowded House seems the hot favorite as a group 1 winner but there are other good performers here. Redwood, Naheem have both won this year. Native ruler has run the trip and looks a good value bet, maybe I'm way off. Kite wood looks better over the longer distance...Any opinions?

Dunno about this, no real evidence. Black Bear Island was highly regarded by BallyDoyle prior to his run in the prix la force. I think he is worth another shot

I was very tempted to back BBI at the end of last season for this years Derby but I didnt bother, I think he is a full brother of High Chapparal (stand corrected on that). Was it an impressive win today, a la Fame and Glory?

Another 'talking through your pocket' statement. Jesus.

What makes you think he was the number 2 horse? Johnny was riding him? Price was shorter? You're some muppet if you follow patterns like that.

Jockeys in such situations have to pick their horses. Ruby picked Kauto in the Gold Cup '08, a big choice... There isin't much between all the top horse at Ballydoyle.

Both horses today had won similar maidens, and there was literally nothing between them today. BBI, as Richie said, didn't run well in France last month, but ran similarly to Golden Sword; Vase winner last week at 25s.

****ing hell, when something like that happens again, refrain from the retarded comments like your last one and say to yourself "jesus, I should have taken note of that".

Was the bookie laughing at you when you walked out the door?

    No, not at all.

There's just a major amount of retarded comments here, and they need sorting out.

How was it a retarded comment?

You're calling him a muppet for following patterns like betting prices and jockey bookings, this is generally a sign of which horse is more highly regarded as im sure you obviously know.

You're way out of line here imo.

I`d have backed BBI only Richie tipped it.....:D
Fame and Glory cert for derby now

You are the clown mate. Of course he was the number two horse. I'll take Johnny Murtagh's opinion over yours any day of the week. He was 12-1 in the market and the victory of Freemantle at Tipp looked outstanding compared to Black Bear Island's win. Theres no point in laying into other people here. I backed Black Bear Island, but he was the second string yesterday.
If betting and Jockey booking doesn't define a 1st and second string, then what does mate ? :D

:):) what a knob, I hate that saying talking through your pocket, of course he was and theres nothing wrong with that, its what punters do, and besides of course BBI was the supposed second string, cant believe people take the internet so seriously

Some complete and utter bullsh1t in this.
Black Bear Island was one of the first talking horses to be backed for the derby at the start of the year.
Both horses made their debuts at the curragh where Black bear island was ridden by C.O'D and murtagh again rode freemantle and the result was BBI 2nd and freemantle 3rd 1/2 a length behind. BBI won his maiden handy then as a 2/7 shot in naas. Standard wasnt up ta much but won wit head in chest.
Freemantle won his maiden in Tipp in heavy ground by 10l from signal fire(a decent perfomrer but not listed class). Sure it was impressive but the quality of the race and the ground dictated that it he was made look impressive. He wasnt even favourite to win the race.
BBI was 3rd in a decent race in france when a lot was expected of him but O'Briens hadnt started wit any sort of spark and murtagh wasnt very hard on him so they were probably pleased enough wit his 1st run of the year.
All these horses work together and Murtagh on more than one occasion has chosen the wrong horse to ride this year and other years and has gave more than one dodgy ride.
However to say BBI was the 2nd string i think is a bit wrong, 2nd choice more like. Murtagh can only judge these horses on their work but both are very promising and open to any amount of improvement. Murtagh gave freemantle an excellent front running ride but black bear island was ridden with great confidence at the rear of the field and was brought with a well timed challenge to mug him. If these two meet in the derby i feel BBI will beat freemantle again.
With respect to yesterdays race both horses were backed early and both then drifted a bit before the race. Yes we can assume because murtagh chose Freemantle he was 1st choice but i`m sure if he was talked to before the race he would have said both horses are open to massive improvement and shouldnt be much between em which der wasnt.
If we went by betting yesterday we couldve backed both and made a tidy profit.
As for crowded house he won a brutal running of the G1 racing post and well he was shown up for what he is.
All in all its going to be an irish dominated derby, End of.
