Where to get decent jack????

I want to buy a decent car jack. Fed up of cheap 2 ton jacks that fail after little use. I would love one like the tyre fitting places use but new they are hundreds and hundreds!!!! However, they seem to last forever.
does anyone know where I might be able to buy a decent (second hand) jack that can lift up to 3 tons to a good height and also has relatively low access?
I put a couple of wanted adverts up but have had no replies.

I'm hoping someone might know of a tyre fitting place or garage that would sell one of there old ones (but still working) for a decent price.

    Heres hoping!

I dont think I'd buy a used one, they could have millions of "lift" under their belt and be worn out.

    then.......:D

I quite fancy the model DK20, which you buy in a dealer here, for Eur 255

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I have the same jack as that one, albeit in Halfords livery. It's grand for lifting cars and the quick-lift feature on the first jack of the handle is great but after almost a year now of fairly regular (not quite everyday) use I've noticed that it has started to flex a bit the higher you go. It'll actually lift a wheel it deflects that much to one side. You know yourself, when you jack one corner of a car, it doesn't go straight up, it kind of tilts, leaving three wheels on the ground. This is what causes the deflection to the side.

To put it bluntly, I would not get under a car relying purely on this jack for the integrity of my skull or chest. I always use axle stands and push whichever wheel(s) I've taken off in under the car too for a last resort bit of peace of mind...

I'm considering replacing this jack with a better one soon. I'd be interested to see what you turn up...

Justinoval - do you have any pictures or details of the army surplus jacks at 80 euro? Would be interested but don't want to make the journey if not suitable.

Likewise - I bought the same (Halfords) jack and it works great for me - but I bought two axle stands at the same time and always pop them under if I'm heading under myself. :)

Thats recomended no matter how good the jack is. I'd still use axle stands even if it was a professional jack.
Anyone know if there is any similar army surplus stores nearer to Dublin/ Wicklow? I've only ever seen the ones selling clothes and camping gear in Capel St.
