    Hi blackice,

first of congrats on passing stage two;), first of all, what I would say is go to a qualified ADI instructor and do your stage 3 training with them. I have a recommendation for a really good instructor that does trainee training so will pm you now with his details.

    Hi,

I don't want to apply the stage 3 at the moment, thinking of getting more experiences in the next few months. Can I actually teach pupils now even I just passed the stage 2? Do I have to apply the trainning lisence to start teaching?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Officially I believe you cannot teach and charge until you have passed all 3 stages, however I understood the RSA has granted some additional time to instructors already 'in the system' whereby if you had passed the part 2 you could continue as an instructor until June before passing Part 3. Not sure if this applied to people who had passed part 2 before the deadline (April 30th) or applies to everyone who passed Part 2.

If you are considering just starting as an instructor then I think you are probably better off going down the trainee route. You need to apply to the RSA for the Trainee licence (€100) and find an ADI to sponsor you. The ADI must then keep a log of all of your training and at least 20% of them must be supervised by the ADI. As far as I know its only valid for 6 months so you need do the Part 3 within 6 months. There is little enough info on the trainee system and so I'd be inclined to get in touch with the RSA themselves to see exactly if that is in place and working at the moment.

Personally I think that system is flawed - for example do you pay the ADI to sponsor you ? What is in it for the ADI and how do you find them ? Does the ADI get the fee from the lessons where they are supervising ? Would pupils be happy to take a lesson which was being supervised and would they pay the same as for a 'normal' lesson from a fully qualified ADI ?

I think a better system would have been to allow instructors who have passed part 1 & 2 (thereby demonstrating that you have a good knowledge of the rules of the road and can drive to a high standard) to begin to instruct but be clearly identified as a Trainee Instructor or something (forget about the ADI supervision). It would then be up to the pupils to decide if they wanted to use a Trainee or a Full Qualified ADI - I guess the expectation would be that it should be cheaper to go with a Trainee.

One thing that is going to happen it is will be very difficult to get insurance in the future unless you are a qualified ADI so the sooner you get that the better.

    Best of luck!
