As a Corkman I'll miss him, I know he wasn't that popular with supporters of other counties but you have to admit he was a good full-back in his day, but sadly his best days are definitely behind him.

I was at that game, looking at that clip it strikes me how lean he is. He filled out a bit in the last few years and that affected his performances.

Didn't he score another great one against Clare in thurles around then too? I can't remember the year. He was out beyond the 65 on the right wing and let fly.

A very good player in his day and part of a great Cork team.

I'm sure the thought of being dragged about the place by Joe Canning probably hastened his departure :D

Gorta will miss Diarmuid this year!
Nah, he will be missed, a hard worker who gave his all. Hard to believe he's only 30.

A great servant for Cork. Was outstanding in his day. His form wasn't great last year but he's given many great performances for Cork, will be missed.

Lads does anyone agree that his attitude leaves a lot to be desired, I mean he's quitting because he doesn't want to play full-back! I can't fathom that attitude, as good a player as he is.

I wouldnt exactly be he's biggest fan but I think ur being a bit simplistic and harsh, the reality is he knows in he's heart of hearts that he can no longer cut it at intercounty level as a FB - just look at both Lar Corbett and Joe Canning last year - but felt he may have somethig to offer further out the field ( persumably FF) but Walsh wasnt too keen on the idea so he decided to call it a day - correctly imo nothing worse than once great hurlers playing on too long past their beat and tarnishing their records.

He can retire happy with All-Ireland medals in his arse pocket.

A great player and a better character

I appreciate that but he's only 30! He's still great. Hasn't he just come off a season playing rugby? I think it's a poor attitude and right after all thats gone on in Cork.

Good player alright, although he was a cheeky little fcuker with the whole 3-balls incident a few years ago :pac:

The limerick boys didn't take that ****e lightly either. Funny stuff alright.

He was a real character though on the field. Some of the things he would do would lift a team and the crowd in general. Like the score above I suppose.

    Good luck to him anyway

Good solid hurler over the years, made a good call to hang up the boots as, in fairness, he was going downhill lately. Could see him hanging around the Cork backroom staff for the championship for support.
Well done anyway to the Rock.

You beat me too it, i was on the city end terrace that day, couldn't believe it when it went over - the best point i've ever seen in any hurling match. I didn't mind in the end though cos Limerick won the game :D

If he was a Waterford man he'd be a legend for doing that though ;)
