    Hello all
I represent the East Link Toll Bridge. The current situation is that the Bridge is planned to lift from 2.00pm to 3.30pm today, Wednesday, 13th May. This is subject to confirmation and I will post if there are any changes. The Gardai will direct traffic during the lift.
    Best regards
    Rachel

Traffic has now been halted at the East Link Bridge. The barge is moving towards the Bridge. The Bridge itself will open at 2.30pm and the whole process will take approximately one hour.

Job done...The Bridge was back down at 3.00pm and the first vehicles back through the East Link Toll Plaza by 3.10pm. All over in less than an hour.

Rachel, what refund is a motorist entitled to, under normal circumstances, if he or she has paid their toll fee and is held up by a bridge lift.

whilst I agree with you on that one Terrontress (always been a gripe of mine), i think this particular thread isnt the place for that question.

Rachel must be commended for using this forum to post information of direct interest to consumers from a service providers perspective.

    Thanks!

    Hi Terrontress
Just to answer your query - under normal circumstances, the Bridge is designed to be raised and lowered in under a minute. Bridge lifts are only permitted during the off-peak periods and on average Bridge lifts are currently less than one a day / 6–7 per week

Therefore normally, the impact of a normal lift on traffic flows is minimal with no refund available.

Yesterday was obviously an exceptional event under the control of DCC & the Gardai.

    Regards
    Rachel

Surely the toll booth would have stopped cars in advance of this and not let them pay a toll - just to sit there, no?

How come it was so slow yesterday? The sheer size of the bridge? :)

Hi Cookie Monster - you're right the traffic was stopped in advance of the lifting of the toll-bridge and therefore tolls would have only been collected as drivers passed through the plaza when it reopened.

that and the very tight clearance issues. Plus due to the size of the bridge and wind would have pushed it around. So it had to be done very slowly and carefully. See the thread on the Samuel Beckett bridge in this forum for details and lots of pictures
