    Hi all

I'm new to this but I've read through the stickies for info and I have a couple of questions. I'm looking to setup a Skpe phone in a friends house that she has just moved to. She has a 3MB broadband connection with no landline. I guess calls will mainly be to landlines\mobiles rather then other Skype phones. A computer will always be on.

    1. Are these the only handsets available - http://shop.skype.com/intl/en-ie/phones? If so, I take it the cheap Philips VOIP3211 will do the job?

    2. How do you go about getting a phone number for others to contact you (01 region)?

Any info greatly appreciated! Thanks Guys :)

1). If the computer is always on you don't even need a handset. But if you want one for the convenience there are many others you can buy, as well as those featured in the Skype store. An eBay search will produce lots of possibilities.

2). To get an 01 phone number you simply go to your account section at skype.com and buy (lease actually) one. Very simple process.

Ask Eircom about "broadband talk" for incoming land line calls. As Malachy47 states, outgoing is no problem with Skype.

Hey Barak you already have a phone number - + 1 202 456 1414. With probably 5000 ISDN channels and dozens of operators (not to mention voice servers) to take your calls. Why do you need Skype? :-)

You may want to consider an Analog Telephone Adapter
which allows a "standard" phone to be plugged in, including dect wireless phones. People usually have such phones already.

There are also routers available with telephone connections built in.

One last thing I would draw your attention to ..... Skype is not the only option, and some would say not the best either, for VOIP.
Have a look at the offerings from www.blueface.ie for instance. They have a 'pay as you go' option for as little as €5 so the service can be checked out to see if it suits. An Irish VOIP number is part of the lower package and regional numbers can be assigned/bought also.

It is just an example .... I have no association with the company. The only reason to mention them is as an example of what else is available besides Skype.

    good luck.
