Shrinking logos on election posters

Has anybody else noticed how the Fianna Fáil logo seems to be shrinking on election posters in Dublin? Is this happening across the country? Does anyone have any photographs of election posters with small logos in their own areas?

I haven't seen many election posters for the Greens so I wonder if it is the same.

I haven't seen any greens either but the majority of FF posters I've seen have their party name squeezed into the bottom right corner in very small font. They claim the logo hasn't gotton smaller but infact the picture of the canditate has gotten bigger. Such nonsense.

Definately happening in Meath, very few FF posters anyway but the ones that are up have almost disassociated themselves :p

It's come up several times, even on the letters page of the Irish Times so it's quite the cliché at this stage.

I did notice they hang those posters higher than ever.....
It is the right thing to do with them... hang them high.

For the record I am not a fianna Failure man so dont berate me

But I love my politics and have to say Fianna Fails logo has been small the last number of years. It came from there strategy which says make the canidate the party and not the opposite way around. This just has become a daft daft debate about logo's

Type Fianna Fail into google and look at the images you will realise over the last few years they have been small

The logos on the FF posters are very small. I don't mind that. It's better than the posters they had from the last election under the "Vote Bertie's Team" campaign complete with grinning mugshot of the Bertster himself staring down at you.

no sorry its deliberate to distance themselves from the parrty

Some are colored blue also. You'd think they were FG posters almost. On first impressions anyway.

Whereever you stand, say it loud and proud and stand by it
Enough of this disassociation tactic, everyone has seen through it anyway so why bother?

Not sorry its a policy from a few years,

Do you have links showing Fianna Fail posters from the last election? I googled, as you suggested earlier, but no previous FF posters came up.

They had to give more space to the candidate to fit their ego's on the posters :P

and of course compare the old againt the new, you realise its just a little daft! Now these are just my links these are not the document comparissions.

This one is significantly larger than what they have now. When you have to go look for which party the poster is from you know it's FF.

The Callelly posters around Fairview Park have a bigger Facebook logo than Fianna Fail.

    Vote Facebook!!!!!

I agree, the http://www.flickr.com/photos/67945918@N00/506038153 image shows a Fianna Failure logo at least 3 times the size of ones I have seen around my area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,262 ✭✭✭✭Joey the lips

Again I dont agree I just think its different backrounds. There canvass litrature is exactly the same!

Anyone got more images so we can compare?

I'm going to Try to get a picture of Eibhlin Byrne's poster at lunchtime. The FF logo is even smaller than the "vote for this guy too" text.
Really, you can barely see it.

It is about the posters on the streets, especially what you can see at a glance when you drive by. The websites are irrelevant to this discussion.

On this GE 2007 poster the Fianna Fail logo is clearly visible.

It’s difficult to know with this one, as the logo is enlarged to state a point re printers, and there is no full image with which to compare the size. The logo seems larger than the current ones.

Bertie’s logo is small, but it doesn’t matter, as everyone knows he is Fianna Fail.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/martinoc/523909431/

There are lesser-known faces on the current lot of posters, and it is difficult to see the Fianna Fail logos. I don’t remember having had this problem in the past.

Brian Crowley, MEP, has lots of election posters and designs on the back of buses. The colours and overall design is completely different to the party or any other party. It looks very Independent. The Finna Fail logo is tiny (about the size of my baby finger) down in the bottom right beside the required printer information. Its done outside of the main poster design in a white area.

there even doing it to ads in local papers as well aswell if you look at the pic you will see some of the candidates in my area, Cllr Crowe is attached to FF but still he has left the logo out from his ad, i wonder why??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,082 ✭✭✭lostexpectation

ill accept it may be part of general design/campaignnig strategy going back years but
    its doesnt' explain this,

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/74244047@N00/3521049391/ -brian crowley
just when ff are unpopoular and brian crowley is in serious disagreement with ff over european groupings etc.

its more then conincidence that its happening.... ff have been very unpopular for years with a lot of people , these type of populist/ playing the oppostion while in government tactic is how they keep winning it is also part of their strategy

Seriously small that one, not even in election colours! Strange one!

That's shocking and really shows the strength of people's 'commitment' to the party.

He has bilboards and designs on the back of buses the exact same. His canvass material is also the same.

I've seen him being interviewed and he is not a very likeable character.

More to the point, where are these candidates getting the money to come up with custom designs and print these. I'd view someone splashing out on a custom design as an egomaniac for one and I'd be inclined not to vote for them if they are getting additional money from sources that other party members are not.

To the best of my knowledge, its free for new candidates and they gotta pay for it themselves if its your second time running. Most candidates are to tight to get a custom design and ask a printer to just throw something stupid together.

I assume Brian was given a large chunk of money seeing as he has two different poster designs and has flodded down here with election posters/billboard/bus designs.

A friend heard someone involved in the marketing of these posters on the radio yesterday saying that the marketing people for the FF posters were told on the sly to keep the logo small due to recent poll results

I highly doubt thats true and its very unlikely they would actually say that on air. It is odd, I agree, but I cant see it being official policy.

I didn't even notice those. I was thinking myself the other day how funny there is no hint whatsoever on his posters that he is a FF man.

The local guy in our area has a green background on his poster and the tiniest FF logo sitting in the green background, in another shade of green! I thought he was running independent until I got a few feet from it.

Driving past Mallow yesterday on my way to Limerick, I noticed that all FF posters logos were so minute that i almost needed a pair of binoculors to see them. That is a true sign of a corrupt party and a sneaky and cute way to divert attention away from the FF name. Dont see any "vote for Cowen's team" posters like we saw in the 2007 GE for Bertie.
