    I didn't realise this. Thought I'd share.
    L.A.'s municipal code allows bikers on the sidewalk as long as they yield to pedestrians.

    I get the impression there aren't many of either (bikers or pedestrians) in Los Angeles.

    I'm always in two minds about cycling on pavements. Depends what mood I'm in. Personally, I won't if I can avoid it and when I do, looking for a place to lock my bike or something, I feel pangs of 'bold boy syndrome'. When it's dangerous for cyclists, it can be OK. But it's not OK when it's a quick route down a one way street or when you can't be arsed getting over into your correct cycling lane. I dunno.

    Saw two garda cyclists on the foot path in Drumcondra on Monday, I know they don't have to follow the letter of the law, but still "lead by example" and all that...

    When have ever done that?? :rolleyes:

    In Madrid cyclists are allowed on wider footpaths, such as on Gran Via. So long as there's more than 8 feet or something similar.

    But they don't cycle much in Madrid. They think it's mad. So there are no cycle lanes. I still get a little surprise when I see them on the path.

    I hate people who cycle on footpaths as much as I hate those cycle lanes that are on the footpaths (you know the type, painted on). A stupid deaf granny walked straight in front of me on one (singlespeed, front brake only) on the N81 last month, Just at Ashfield College. Had to bail onto the road, stem to the ribs wasn't nice and the bitch had the nerve to give out to me.

    </rant>

    Pedestrians should be banned

    Why would you only have a front brake on a singlespeed? Maybe she had a point.

    Because I'm recovering from two torn ligaments & a fractured metatarsal in my left foot (different story altogether). I'm not back fit enough yet for fixie. My bike (Pista) also doesn't have a rear brake mount :o
