Guys - Would it be possible to get different sub sections for the different branches:
    Chemical/Civil/Electrical/Mechanical

I think it would be very useful in today's economic climate so people can make contact with other members to discuss jobs/ideas around the world and within Ireland from suitable disciplines.

I don't think the forum gets enough traffic tbh.

It is quiet enough as it is, and i think splitting it up would just make it seem even more dead.

I'd prefer to keep it as one forum - it's good to get discussion from different branches in the one place. As Jonathan said it's also fairly quiet.

Why do people think it is good to dilute a forum by seperating it up into different subforums. You need to realise that more forums = less views per thread especially for an already small forum like Engineering. For example, i don't have time to go visiting every forum on boards so chances are I would just go to the electrical one - even though i know people in other disicplines and may even be able to help them out.

    What Jonathan and others said.

However, if you do wish to start a Civil or Chemical or whatever thread, by all means go for it!

Makes no sense to me. It's mainly new graduates who tend to label themselves according to the above categories. Those categories are dated and don't reflect the variety of engineering activities practiced in Ireland or any other country. Most Irish engineers with experience could fall into several of the above categories or indeed none of them, regardless of their academic qualifications. Think of the variety of backgrounds of building services engineers, process engineers, software engineers, energy engineers, automation engineers, instrumentation engineers, manufacturing engineers, etc. etc.

I find it interesting to read everyones threads regardless of their
area of engineering and agree with what was said that there
simply isn't enough traffic to justify the sub forums.
