Hi all, Shannon based Sikorsky S-61N "Rescue 115" EI-RCG of the Irish Coast Guard which is a frequent visitor to Galway Hospital landed behind Galway Lifeboat Station today after 7:30pm and stayed on the ground for well over an hour to show some new Galway Lifeboat Personnel the ropes and a general look around this mighty beast, so i hurriedly got down to her to see, and a big thanks to the crew who were very open and friendly and let me and others in for a look around and a brief on her and the equipement.

I wont bore you with more chat so on with the show!

    Enjoy.

Looking back from the Cockpit, Behind the Stretcher is a Fuel Tank and FLIR Observer Position, the Blue cover on the ground is the "Sea Tray" this stops saltwater/fluids from gaining access to the inner workings of the S-61N And is easy to maintain

Sorry about the sizes being different, uploaded some a smaller size for some reason. Most were taken recently, the last two were taken couple of years ago (just to show old markings)

Is it true it's noisy as hell and like flying in a tin bucket? I know someone who probably never wants to step foot in it again!haha

Yes quiet noisy. Most passengers do not enjoy it as they have to wear ear muffs. Crew on the other hand have helmet comms so cant hear it as bad and can freely speak to each other:D. Great fun!!

Emailed them to two of the lads, both delighted to get them (quoted you and boards as author). Like most emergency services photos are taken of us all but we never get copies of them!

    Cracking shots Steyr.

The Sikorsky from Dublin Airport regularly passes over my house if its heading North, and I always have a camera ready for the one in a million chance they’ll stop off for a cup of tea. I’ll even throw in some Jaffa Cakes to make it worth there while.

Whats the cost for the helicopter to fly, how much per hour.

and who be the red and whites?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 315 ✭✭Whitewater-AGS

The red and whites would be a cub troop

The cost of the heli depends on things like wind, time hovering, landing and take off etc. Rough guide for RCG is €1500 for first hour and €500 for every other hour, but this is really rough. THe IrCG rescue helis are on tender to CHC so there is no cost to use them. CHC is on a set price. This contract is up for tender next year.

Dont know where their from, Tralee maybe.

No not a scout. Never been one. Closest to me growing up was 20-30 miles away.
