Anyone else think these things are ugly?

I was at the Barrow today and I noticed these things. I'm not sure what they are (or if they're going to be left there permanently) but I guess they're for boats.

I think these things are pretty ugly looking and spoil the natural beauty of the Barrow. It doesn't help that half of them are old and rusty.

You could be right. I never thought of that. Maybe they're building something to prepare for the next time the Barrow is flooded.

They've been there a number of years, I believe they were put there for one of the regatta's. Boarding was put across them for easy access to boats, or seating etc

they are put out for certain times of the year for the regatta and some other events on the river afaik they attach boards to them for getting in/out of boats.

Thanks for the information. I've lived in Carlow all my life but for some reason I've never seen these things before.

Thanks. I don't know why I've never noticed them before.

they must be a regatta on this weekend, for them to be up. They are up a couple of times a year for the judging or something I presume.

They used to leave them up a few years ago, but not anymore, just too much temptation for people messing on them.

The Regatta is less than a month away hence why they're there.

They used to be taken down after it but it's a lot of effort to tak them up as they are unbelievably heavy. So now they just take the boards up.

It's used as a temporary slip.
