Bike bag?

I am going away on monday and plan on bringing my road bike, the only problem is I called British Airways and they said that the bike has to be in a proper bike bag. I don't really want to risk ordering online now as it would only have two days to get here, can anyone suggest a place to get a cheap one? its only a beone aluminium frame and carbon fork so I reckon a soft bag would be enough. I read that you can rent them from css but I will be away for 5 weeks so could get costly.

    Any help much appreciated,

Would your LBS have one for sale? Where abouts are you based?

    hey,

Was in Portugal a short while ago with the bike. I was told the same thing when pre-checking my bike. I just got a cardboard box from a bike shop. One of the ones that the bikes come to the shop in (They were happy to get rid of it). I wrapped the frame in a sleeping bag and pushed the wheels down either side. A bit of duct tape and I was all set. I did have to loosen the handle bars and swing them to the side but you would have to do that with a bag anyway.

    Anyway hope this helped.

the bike shops I have called tend to be quite expensive as they have been hard cases.

The cardboard box is why I called just to check and they specifically said it had to be a proper bag. I know there is a good chance I would get it on in a cardboard box but as I don't get on the BA flight till Gatwick could be a problem if they refused

The cardboard should be ok if there are no protruding bits.

One tip - don't leave taking off the pedals until you get to the airport, it can be very difficult if they haven't been removed in a long time (or if they weren't greased properly)
