Is it too much to hope that this will solve the "Bluetooth: Not Available" issue that's been plaguing Leopard since its release?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭kevteljeur

I'd recommend the full 10.5.0 to 10.5.7 update; it can resolve various small issues which the incremental updates don't. Big download though.

Since upgrading Yahoo Messenger keeps crashing. It will start up and will remain stable for four or five minutes but then it crashes, every time.

    Boo erns!

Does it address the whole "not waking up from Sleep" issue?

Does anyone else find that 10.5.6 has a very annoying issue where the speed of the text displaying on the screen cannot keep up with the keystrokes? I mean ... as I'm typing this it is a good 0.5 secs before the text appears on the screen. Granted, I'm a fairly fast typist but this has never been an issue before, and in fact it is worse in some applications e.g. Mail than in others.

Perhaps I should update and see what happens!

They've fixed iChat so it differentiates between Idle and Away on Google Talk.

Don't forget those golden rules of system updates: all apps shut down, preferably having started up in 'safe mode', and updating from a downloaded combo-update is safer. Having all sort of apps and system processes running in the background can trip up the updater...

www.macfixit.com has always been good for information for me on system updates.

Upgrade done. Applied it a second time because it stalled before the restart, so I can't say it went smoothly. Still here we are and I'm not seeing anything dramatic.

    I guess it works...

24 hours later and my Bluetooth is still behaving itself :D

I've gone and jinxed it now, haven't I? :pac:

Some people are reporting issues with third-party monitors. No problems here, thankfully.

    Almost downloaded, bricking it.

No probs so far, external monitor behaving itself.

I've just noticed something... My external monitor is misbehaving! It's supposed to show a solid background colour but instead shows desktop images on rotation. Clearly a setting isn't sticking (maybe I need to trash the appropriate .plist file). It worked fine under 10.5.6.

I'm thinking you're taking your os updates way too seriously. I just updated my two production systems with nary a worry. Why sweat it? Just update the feckers you'll be grand. Your backup will save you :)

Honestly, in all the years I've used Macs, I've can't recall experiencing any problems as a result of an update. I'm not denying that issues sometimes arise but I think the internet has people paranoid.

JSMS has died following this update! I let them know so hopefully there should be some solution. Anyone else get that too?

The permissions errors I had from the last update have mostly stayed, I combo updated so really these permissions shold have been sorted...anyone else have a bunch of permissions needing repair?

Because last time I updated this machine up to .6 my hard drive got wiped, then Mactivate made everything worse.

Do Time Machine backup. Download Combo updater disk image. Reboot while holding down shift key to force safe boot, and log into an account with admin privileges. Run Disk Utility to repair permissions, and check filesystem. Repair if needs be (might require booting from external disk, or even using something like Disk Warrior). Run installer. Reboot as required. Likely reboot second time.

It's fussy but it's safe. I've rarely had problems with Mac OS updates, but They always encourage some variation of the routine that I've described. If the install fails, then it's highly probable that something was wrong with your set-up already. The update install just aggravated it.

It won't fix these permission errors, the issue has yet to be addressed by apple, although they have posted this in regards to it:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

EDIT:, actually now I don't really think you were addressing my issue after all, my bad.

ALL Mac JSMS users should check out my post here. If you don't, JSMS won't work.

Indeed I wasn't. Just suggesting a 'best practice' routine for anti-fail procedures prior to an install. :) I had some trouble, but a 'Repair permissions' seems to have sorted the last few issues.

I keep ranting about 'Disk Warrior' like I'm some sort of paid shill but I can't recommend it enough, even for acknowledged system issues. Have you tried running permissions repairs while logged in as 'Root'? Dangerously insane but it can work.

Say you have some...less than legal software installed.
Would this update kill said programs?

Best thing I noticed about 10.5.7 so far is that my WiFi connection appears to be instantly ready after waking from sleep, whereas before I had to wait a whole 7 to 8 seconds before I could browse :D

Could do, depends what that illegal software is. Make sure to do a back up just in case.

Just noticed you can switch power profiles again by clicking on the battery icon. This seemed to disappear in 10.5.6 and was stashed away (under admin authorisation) in System Preferences. Happy days. :)

Interesting. I'd noticed this disappear but didn't see it come back. Excellent :D

My Bluetooth problems haven't gone away though it seems. In fact they've gotten worse :(
