    My doctor wrote me a prescription and put repeat on it. So how many times can i use it??

    ùsually there will be something after "repeat" eg 1/12 (one month) 6/12 (6 months) etc

    if there's just "repeat" then i'd imagine one re-issue of it

    ya it just has "repeat"
    so ill ask the chemist when im getting it filled

    It depends on what type of drug it is. For some it means it can be repeated once (s1a drugs) , for others it can be repeated at appropriate intervals for upto six months (s1b drugs)


    If you look under the section "first schedule" in the legislation the drug you were prescribed will have A or B after it,

    It depends what legal class the drug is - depending on whether the number of repeats/interval/legal class is it could be once, three times or up to six times but your pharmacist will know

    as our pharmacy colleagues were saying - it depends on the drug and how the doctor writes it. Some write "repeat 6/12" or repeat for 6 months, others do "x 1 month Repeatx5" meaning the same thing (dispense for one month and repeat for a further 5).

    Check with your pharmacist.

    And just to state the obvious, but you may not need the medication all the time, so it is up to you to decide if and when you need a repeat, if it is a S1B medication. So if you are getting a month's supply at a time, you could technically get 6 months supply, but you may not need this much (e.g. if you take one tablet every second night).

    Also some pharmacies keep these scripts (annoying) with the promise that if you need a repeat, they will have it 'on file'. Which really means repeat business for them! If you don't get the script back, ask for it.

    And then some people who have taken back their scripts come in saying they lost it in their purse/car/house/Imaginationland (also very annoying, but the other way around)

    If you ask the pharmacy to give you the script back, they will. Just make sure to hold onto the damn thing.
