"Below are the main rules for this forum. Violations of these are interpreted entirely at the discretion of the moderators."

So far in my short time on this site I've had two encounters with the moderators. I have a couple of questions.

I know the Mods police these sites but what gives em the right decide what is right and wrong for the rest of us to discuss? E.G the Library thread closed!

Granted Defamatory remarks, cautions were issued and heeded to, but yet they are still comments and issues relevent to the students of this University and the Mods with their higher moral values (or Orwellian opinions) decide to close the thread

Second Question. where can one get such unadulterated, unquestioned, totalitarian power.... ?:)

    Hi there,

This isn't the place for such a query - the Helpdesk is probably the best place to post this.

If you have comments which are particular to the DCU forum then by all means drop me a PM and I'd be happy to discuss them with you if relevant. If the query regards modding in general then yes, the Helpdesk forum is the place for them.

The Library thread may be reopened if conversation can be kept civil in the other threads and if they are not dragged off topic like so many others recently.

Please don't! That thread was a train wreck from the beginning. All I saw were pointless arguments and personal abuse (some of it fairly nasty imo) directed towards two of the library staff.

Sounds like someone works in the library...

IMPEACH GIZMO! THIS TYRANT HAS RULED OVER US WITH HIS MIGHTY IRON FIRST FOR TOO LONG!

But seriously, that thread was crashing and burning fast, take it over to life.dcu.ie if you feel that it still merits discussion.

    ;)

Tbh, I don't think there's anything wrong with posters pointing out problems they have with certain staff (as long as no names are mentioned of course), but that thread did cross the line a few times.

No, I'm just a normal student and am completely indifferent towards all of the library staff tbh but some of the posts in that thread were completely uncalled for. For example,

People were identifiable. They don't need to be named.

Agreed. And at least one of those posters is guilty of doing that on other threads imo.

Right, glad to see some people are acting in a sensible manner anyway. The thread has been cleaned up and will remain closed.

As for commenting on members of staff in DCU, I'd like to point out the section in the Forum Charter which covers this section...
    Flaming
    - Posts containing personal attacks on people whether a Boards user or not will be edited/deleted.

    - Posts of a defamatory nature directed at any staff of DCU will be edited/deleted.
Respect that and you'll be fine, don't and your posts will be edited and/or deleted. :)
