just wonder if you could give you thoughts on this car,

i'm looking at getting an A6 2.5L V6 TDI quattro 180bhp, it would be between 98-04 model,

The ones in my budget have very high milage 150,000 miles+, so just wondering if there are any problems with it, or anything to look out for,

also i am getting it from the uk as i can't seem to find a good choice here,

so please any input on the car is welcome

Not much point in the 2.5Tdi really, its thirstier than the 1.9, less reliable will cost more to maintain, insure and tax.

    A remapped 1.9 130 would be a better choice.

i need the extra ummph, i will be doing alot of towing and this has a higher tow rate (2100kg) 1.9 (1800kg)

    Consider a BMW 525d instead, or 530d?

If the budget would allow it, I'd stretch for the newer model 3.0tdi - 225bhp and pretty economical - I get 44mpg on a long run on mine (it's a 04). I've had it since new and the only problem I've had was at the very beginning when the fuel gauge sender was misreporting the amount in the tank (hence I ran out of diesel!).

I haven't been keeping a close eye on residuals lately but would imagine I'd be hard pressed to get much more than 15k for it (90k miles on the car) - if you could find a similar one, you'd pick up a lot of car for the money.

Also all the early models brought in, were very highly specd, leather / sat nav / xenons / full mmi etc. I think all of them were tiptronic and quattro as well.

Are you sure the increased towing weight isnt due to the increased weight of the 2.5TDI? The 2.7T Petrol in the A6 can also tow 2100kg, but fuel economy is low 20s.
A remapped 1.9TDI (or better yet 2.0TDI) delivers virtually the same performance at much better economy to the 2.5. I looked at them too, but my attraction to the old V6 TDI was its tolerance of Veg Oil as a fuel, due to the fact the engine is far older than it should be.

Also, this is the 3rd thread in about a month about the same 2.5V6 TDI engine, what gives?

I had considered a bmw but the insurance is over twice that of the A6

I'd love something like that but the buget won't allow me to go up that high in the market,

The 1.9tdi 130 estate A6 is only 1900kg, which would just do it but i would not like to tow on the limit all the time, so i felt the 2.5 would be better, for the power, and weight. It is also easier to find a quattro version with the 2.5. I would still get the 2.5 re-mapped just to get the most out of it.

I was going to run it on veg oil, so are you saying that it is better for that?

Another question on the 2.5V6, are the 155bhp and 180bhp the same but just different mapping, or is there different turbos and internals and such.

and sorry i only looked a few pages back before writing this
