I've got an interview for a job I don't think I'm capable of doing

I’m desperate by this point and the job involves approaching people on the street and asking them to donate money to a dog charity. I avoid those people all the time, sometimes by ignoring them, which I do feel bad about. The guy who rang me made it clear that I need to be confident and a bit fearless. I’m a shy person, so how can I possibly do this?

Lorrs, in my opinion there are certain jobs that are a worse alternative to the dole: these are chugging, cold-calling and door-to-door selling. What have all these in common? They annoy the bejaysus out of people. My advice would be to forget it. And you definitely have to have a particular personality - that's not something you can just acquire yourself.

From what you say, you cant!! It doesnt sound like the greatest job in the world and while I appreciate that things arent that great, surely they arent that bad either. Set your sights a little higher and concentrate on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Otherwise you're beaten before you even start.Besides, if you have to do an "interview" you may not even get the job on the basis of that, so don't worry about it. You can do better!

    Good luck

Lorrs, try Aldi. They appear to be doing a fair bit of recruiting at the moment... Ring them though - don't bother with the online CV lark.

Don't go for it. Some people are able to do this kind of jobs with a smile and energy that makes them less annoying and more efficient but you don't feel you're up to it you will only end up depressed plus you will not help the charity in any way.

I'm the exact same,I ignore the people who do those jobs yet if I was put in their position I would freeze up! Unfortunately you can't really LEARN to be as confident as they are. Don't push yourself into something you don't think you are comfortable doing. Try somewhere else for work and leave the Dog charity position open for someone who suits it.

I think you can learn to be confident. I have found that confidence is merely a logic decision. If you're nervous about something just think 'what is the worst that can happen?' Often you'll find that if you decide not to take someones reaction too personally then you'll be grand and more often than not you'll find that people are nice.
Go for the job PO. You don't have to do it forever and you might come out of it with a bit of confidence. Plus, dogs are great :D
