Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but I can't find it in the other threads.

Q1 - I have a Sky dish and box (not Sky+ just the regular one). My 12 month contract is endning this month. I heard that I can end my monthly payments to Sky, type some codes into my Sky box and keep most of the channels free (except for RTE1, RTE2 and TV3). Is that right?

    Q2 - How do I do it?

Q3 - Is this what is called Freesat? FTV? FTA?

Sorry for all the basic questions, but some of us are a bit challenged in this area:).

Thanks. I did see that Sticky before I posted. How does this work? Do I call Sky and cancel my subscription, follow the procedure in the Sticky and choose all my channels - when I am finished, if I turn my Sky box off and on will it start as normal with the EPG with all the "new" channels on it? Or do I need to do something else?

I appreciate this is basic stuff, but not if you've never done it before.

    Thanks!

Or, do I just pullout my Sky card from the Sky box and leave everything alone?

P.S. If the only thing I will lose is RTE1, RTE2, TV3 and TG4 (which are free via arial anyway), what the hell have I been paying Sky for for 12 months?!?!

Well, you'll losr Sky 1 and 2, your documentarys, etc.

You'll get the Freesat channels, and I think 6 extra.

You'll have whats called "Freesat from Sky" (FSFS)

No Freesat from sky is something slightly different.

You do get all the free channels though.

    Really?

I thought the unsubscribed SKy card acted in its proper box as a sky FTV card?

Thanks, I'll survive without those channels I think.

Whilst channel 5 will not be on the EPG, you can add it in through Other Channels.

Hi tester, the simple answer to your questions are answered on a thread already discussed on boards.ie

If you are an Irish(Republic of)subscriber with a card for the Irish epg,you will not need to get a freesat decoder simply follow the steps on this thread below.

    FTA=free to air,no need for a card.BBC1 on channel 101 etc,
FTV=free to view(these would be the e4,s more 4,s etc.
what ended up being called the 501 method on the thread below works for most people.
