    Hello

thinking of buying Nissan X-trail Elegance 2006, 2.0 Petrol, Automatic from garage, mileage 31K, electric seats, leather etc.
    Price 13 K euro + 1 year garage warranty.

Is it a good bargain? What to look for? I’ve read autotrader.ie Car Buyer Guide – any more checks specific to Automatic X-trail ?

    Thanks

We had a manual one, similar to yours, which we were stuck with for a long time. Think we got 10k for it in the end.

Bare in mind that the motor tax will be high, fuel economy will be very poor, and i dont think the auto boxes in those are the most smooth gearboxes around.

To be honest, I'd say the dealer cant believe his luck getting a buyer for that!

If you can, try get a 2.2 diesel - I know someone that sold a similar spec 2006 2.2 diesel (manual) X-Trail for about that at the start of the year so it makes the 13k look a little pricey

2.0 petrol auto in one of those is not a good buy at almost any price.

Car has to be automatic, X-trail Diesel is manual.

Other options with similar price are Toyota RAV4 2.0 2005, Honda CR-V 2.0 2004, both petrol automatic.

Any better than x-trail in fuel consumption, power, reliability?

x-trail auto has dial with 3 positions – 4WD, AUTO, LOCK. Garage told us to keep dial in 4WD position. What does AUTO, LOCK mean?

The X-Trail I was in had 3 transmission settings

Auto - Dynamically switches between 4WD and 2WD depending on conditions.
2WD - Self Explanatory, RWD - better fuel economy
    4WD Lock - Permanent 4WD.

I think you got a bit mixed up there. For pootling around town and the school runs etc you want 2WD.

A friend of mine has a 2.0 petrol X-Trail in manual, and it's not a bad car to drive. I can't say much for the auto, but I think he gets up around the 30mpg mark, maybe a bit higher. His one has leather, and the seats are fairly comfortable with a nice enough driving position. Plenty enough power in too. Although, I couldn't think of a car (besides a Tiida) that I'd hate more to have in stock. They're not a great seller, and tbh, if I was buying a petrol automatic, I'd expect for the red carpet to be out. 13k IMO is way too expensive.

I wouldnt recommend a X-Trail or any of those Nissan MPV's like the Quasqai or Note there awful to drive and give problems!!

If your after a people carrier for that kinda money i'd recommend -

    Toyota Rav 4
    Honda HRV/CRV
    Opel Zafira
    Hyundai Santa Fe

    Hello

Which one out of 2 SUVs below is better value in terms of fuel consumption, reliability, running costs? Will be used mainly in Dublin with weekend trips to countryside/hills.

Main reason for looking at SUV is space (head/legroom) and elevated driver position.
What discount would be reasonable to request from garage?

Nissan X-trail was criticized as thirsty, are these better? Any other ideas (must be automatic).

I think if you got that for €11,500 or €12,000 you would have a nice jeep for the money. For two similar jeeps (the Rav and CRV), the CRV seems much better value at 3k cheaper.

Edit: Sorry, I saw in your post the CRV was advertised at 12,950, but it's actually 12,250. I think they have it at it's cheapest, and more than likely the most they will offer off on a straight deal is the 250, but I would go in low at 11,500 and stick hard. Don't be surprised if they don't go below 12k though.

Just got the news that much criticized here Nissan X-trail Elegance 2006, 2.0 Petrol, Automatic was sold for 13500 eur – took 3 days to get buyer.

Honda CR–V was advised as better option comparing to x-trail.

Yet Honda CR–V 05 2.0 Petrol, Automatic for 12,250 is unsold for last 3-4 weeks.

Can somebody explain if x-trail is so poor how come it was sold so fast?
Is CRV really better in terms of fuel consumption and reliability?

What about Suzuki Grand Vitara 07 2.0 Petrol, Automatic for 15 K?

How long was it in? Is it 3 days since you looked at it or it was taken in by the trader? Cars do sell, but if you remember the advice here was that it would not be a good buy and that it would be very hard to shift. The fact that it sold just means some other person wanted a vehicle like that.

I'd imagine the Vitara would be hard enough to shift also. The CRV would still be the best in auto

    Hi Kozak

I owned an auto xtrail elegence for a while. The auto was very smooth , comfortable. I drove all over the UK in it and while on motorway runs 30mpg is achievable - in town mpg can drop to 22-25.
No faults with it, a great load lugger and tough inside with the kiddies. If you can live with the fuel consumption then its a very good car. However - I would be offering nearer the 10k mark for those posted

I own a Navara and the garage usually give me an Xtrail when it is getting serviced. I hate it. I was doing long trips in it and I thought it was rough, uncomfertable and cumbersome..... And I drive a pick up normally.... I think with what you are looking to spend, you will find allot better....

LOL, I think that's rich coming from a Navara driver. Possibly the loudest, most annoying and most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever driven.

Thanks for ideas, very useful !

Had a Test drive of Honda CR-V 2.0 05 petrol auto.
    Drives great !
Looks almost like new except 2-3 small stone chips on the bonnet (each about 2 millimeters, looks like drops of dry dirt, should not be too hard to get rid of)
tyres are worn out (55 K miles) but garage promised new tyres.

Garage agreed to Cash price 11400 with new tyres. Is it a good value for Honda CR-V ?
What are other things to watch out?
Heard about timing belt check but not sure how to check it?
