Advice on servicing Bora TDI

    Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a large service done on my TDI Bora and I'm looking for advice on what I should be getting done on the car apart from an oil and oil filter change.

I called into the VW service centre near Cabinteely, Dublin today (part of MSL service centre), I was quoted €380 for a 'full service' (as opposed to their regular service) which would include oil and oil filter and air filter change. There were some other things that I can't remember now, but a cleaning of the brake pads was mentioned as well as a diagnostics and if anything else popped up they'd call me.

How important is all this stuff? To give you a history of the car:
It's a 00 reg, 90bhp diesel with 136,000 miles on it. I bought it 2nd hand, three and a half years ago with 88k miles on the clock.
The guy before me had gotten it serviced with his local mechanic so there's no definite history there. The garage I bought it from did an oil and timing belt change when I bought it.

Since then, what I've been getting done on it regularly is a oil and filter change with my local mechanic. It's had a fuel filter change at 94,000 miles. I've had the brake pads and the tyres changed and that's it.

As I've done nothing with the brake fluid, power steering fluid, air filter, coolant, spark plugs and the like in the 3 and a half years I've had it (and I don't know what was done before me) I'm keen to get them looked at now as I'm going to be depending on my car more now than ever.

-Is there a checklist of things I should be going to a garage with at this stage as opposed to what they're offering?

-Is the VW garage's price decent for what they do? Close on €400 and there might be more is a lot, but having the car looked over by VW mechanics and diagnostics equipment would be reassuring and then I could go back to my local mechanic for another while.

The car is running fine and has passed two NCTs without a problem.

    Thanks for your help.

Actually, how about getting it serviced up North, does anyone recommend a dealer up there?
