I have just been handed the oppertunity to do 6 FTA installs. I have no problem with the installs but I was wondering what type of insurance ye installers have, if any, and how much it costs.

We carry Public Liability & Employers Liability insurance up to €13m works out at about €350 a month. We've got it through Quinn alot of insurance companies don't want to insure Satellite installers, i'd assume its because of the ladder risks etc.

I carry Public, product and employers liability through O'callaghan insurance. I doubt just doing 6 FTA would be economical unless you think you will get more work in future.

Yeah, I know. But I don't think I would bother without insurance which is a pity.

We use Quinn insurance as well, 25 years experience, but a friend of mine asked for the same cover and was quoted 3 times my price, as he only had 3 years experience, and works from mayo ?

    regards,

I use Quinn for public and product liability.
    No employees , (self only ) €1300.
Penty of cowboys out there with no insurance, not paying tax etc.

Might be worth checking out now as I think insurance companies are obliged to refund any un used part of your insurance. Worth a phone call I reckon :)

This is interesting. So, I could take out the insurance, do the 6 installs, then ask for a refund? Wonder if they would just insure me for a weeks or so!?

Eh no because you have to insure for future product liability and any other claims, there would also be a cancellation fee most likely.

Ah well, that's a pity. It's up to 10 installs now and to be honest I reckon that will increase too. Shall have to tell them to go elsewhere, its fairly rural too!

Might I suggest a chat with your local independent, you may still get some benefit and experience, would be a shame to lose an opportunity like this.

Just to let everyone know contacted O'Callaghan on Tony's advice works out close to €2000 cheaper than what we were paying too Quinn  Told them they better be giving you a discount Tony for the business you sending their way.

Forget the insurance, you don't need it if each customer is personally employing you.

It's their insurance who pays out if all goes pear shaped.

    You'd just be an employee.....

I contacted Quinn and got a quote for €1100 for the year. Thats Public and Product liability up to 2.5 million, just for me. Not too bad.

On another note, could someone PM and good source for equipment at cost? I can't seemt to get a reliable source.

Oh, and don't think I would chance this without insurance.
