A friend of mine has an interview for the Heaton's head office and was wondering if anyone had experience of working there. What's the atmosphere, culture like- the hours seem to be long with an 8hr working day ie 8 - 5 Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Since when does 8 hours constitute a long working day:confused:

I've never heard of 8 hrs being a long day. what does your friend think a days work is ?

More like a standard 45 hour week if in the buying office which means about 57hrs a week in the office. If they are on the road best not to think in hours more like blocks of days!

Wmpdd3 - do you have personal experience of the buying office? What would is the atmosphere like. Should she be expecting very long hours.

To everyone else what I mean is the standard worig week is 37.5hrs - this is 40 before any overtime. Many people work 9 - 5.30 not 9 - 6. May seem a small thing but it adds up.

Hi there. I used to work in a recruitment agency and placed a few people in the accounts dept. The short story is that each of them HATED the place. They had to get permission to use the loo etc. All of them left after a few weeks. Maybe things have changed since then but I'd be careful leaving a job to go work for them.

thanks...was that long ago!? I don't know anyone who worked there so it's hard to judge...I have a job offer in a fashion related area. They seemed really nice in the interview, there was nothing that deterred me in any way...

That was a good few years ago....maybe 4 or 5 years. As I said, that was the account dept. Perhaps the fashion people are great. Are you currently in a job? Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you.

If you're thinking of going into retail you need to expect 12 hour days. If its in head office you might do an 8-6. If you thought 37.5 was standard it's not for you!

I already work in supply/manufacturing and work a 39hr week and have a 12hour day when commuting is included... I am prepared for the work I am asking more so about the company/head office atmosphere!

Hi sgc86 - did you end up taking the job? It is an employer that I am interested in and I would be keen to see if you took it, and if so how you are getting on?

    Thanks
