We are coming to that time of year again! I have being burnt twice already, albeit mildly. I have a few questions if someone didn't mind answering.

I first noticed I was burnt when my ears were irriating me. Why is this? Is it just because my ears are more exposed to the sun? Also how effective are the sun screen lotions in preventing skin cancer? Do they block out all the harmfull effects of the sun?

The sunburn causes local inflammation, in some areas causes chemical reaction under skin and hence the irritation on ears

In west of Ireland see lots of old fellas with triangular chunks gone out of their ears as a result of operations for skin cancer, working outside they were very prone

If you go out without lotion you last a certain time before burning, if you put on factor 6 that prolongs the burning time by a certain multiple, factor 20 is stronger, factor 40 stronger again

strongest I have seen is factor 60 which is what you might see on some of the cricket players lips and noses, a zinc based thick lotion

They dont block all harmful effects though just delay sun effects, thats probably best way to look at it

I see, thats great info thanks. Yeah because I have fair skin so I usually go for the high factors.
