I purchased a Humax Freesat HDR last week while in the UK £292.00 in Lewis's Department Store Cambridge. I was in Maplin in Dublin this morning and they have the same device in stock at, wait for it...........€509.00 Now is that taking the P**s or what?

BTW the device so far is great,no problem other than if using an external USB drive not being able to record anything larger than 4gb unless formatting the external drive in ext3 (Linux)

The 4GB restriction is a limit on the FAT32 format, nothing Humax can do about it, unless they can devise software that will segment recordings bigger than 4gigs.

You could have got it cheaper at Richer Sounds, delivered to your door. (£259)
Not much good telling you that now but may help others.

Maplins in the republic is the biggest joke of a shop. Thing is there's no real competition around.

On satellite products I beg to differ.

Maplins satellite set top box prices are pretty ridiculous but there are plenty of local options around on the same or similar equipment once you do a bit of research before parting with cash.

I got mine from Richersounds for £249 delivered. Brilliant piece of equipment, does everything except fetch me a cold can of Bulmers from the fridge :D

The ability to go through the 7 day epg and do the one touch programmed recording of films, drama series etc and then forget about it until I want to watch them is my favourite bit. Now if only I had the time to sit down and watch the stuff I've recorded would be nice!! (see 4 kids and pregnant wife for that). I suppose if I watched more tv, I wouldn't have the 4 1/2 kids :D:D

The really silly thing is they offer a reasonable delivery charge from maplins.co.uk - meaning a lot of the time it is much cheaper to order from their own UK website than buy locally.

True for sat stuff yes, but if you want somewhere to walk in to get computer/electrical parts ect, there's not many handy alternatives.

Thanks for clarifying that but in fairness this is a satellite forum.
